Car died when i unpluged PCV

My car died when i unpluged the PCV valve to check it! is this normal? I don't think so but im not sure. If thats not right, what is wrong? Also i took the valve out completly to do the shake test, and i was wondering how freely it is supposed to be when you shake it? Thanks in advance!!

According to my Chilton's, a good way to test it is to unplug it and feel the sunction. So, I don't think it's suppose to died on you. Also, with the shake test, the valve is pretty sensitive. If you barely tip it, the valve will open or close. If you are still unsure if your valve is messed up, then replace it. They are pretty cheap and easy to replace. And chances are, it hasn't been replaced before if you haven't done it yourself.

well if you just unhook the hose chances are it will go dead since it will be a major vacuum leak. I believe what the chilton manual wants you to do is take the pcv out (make sure to connect the hose back up) and check it that way.
