Sunroof broke, how to fix?
The motor on my sunroof (97 i30) seems to have died and it won't close all the way. I pulled it shut but it won't press up against the seal tightly so if it rains I'm doomed. Is there a manual close on this thing? How do you fix it?
Also, how much does it cost to get it completely fixed?
Thanks,
mark

You're REALLY not going to like this.
My sunroof broke last year during summer. The exact same problem you were having occured with me, the motor just died. I went to the nissan dealership, asked how much it cost for a new sunroof motor, and they told me.
"Oh, we don't sell just the motors, you're going to have to replace the entire sunroof assembly."
Me: How much is that?
"$800 Canadian + 8 hours labour"

I worked some stuff out, and had a friend who owns a junkyard pull me in the roof of a 98 Green Maxima. We hauled the sunroof assembly ourselves, took mine out, put the replacement in, and got it all setup. It took acouple of hours and was a bit tricky (taking the assembly out of a hacked up roof with no worry of damaging anything is easy. Taking one out of a fully assembled, UPSIDE DOWN roof, with worry of damaging stuff is HARD.) but we got it done for $450 canadian.
That's a pretty hefty bill. If it's not covered under your warranty, it's probably going to run you at least $300 US. At most, $900 US (dealership price
