hi.

when i turn on my air conditioner, it blows out a really awful smell. it's so bad to the point where i'd rather have my windows down than have the ac going. please help me get rid of that awful smell!!

i've got a 96 SE

 

Get a can of Lysol. Turn the fan on HIGH, and put it for OUTSIDE AIR. Walk outside and then spray the can of lysol into the cowl (under where the wipers are). Go in the car then switch the settings (high, low, bi level, defrost etc) of the air positioner and repeat the process. THen drive down the highway with all windows open and fan still on high to loose the lysol smell. This should clear up the smell.

 

Lysol will only mask the smell for a few days. You have mold spores growing in your condensor. There are cleaning systems made for A/C condensors. Check with your local Auto parts store for an A/C condensor coil cleaning system.
