Wobble in Reverse

All you Guys out there, I need your help. I have a 94 SE 5 SP. While backing up,I get a wierd kinda thunk most of the time. Sometimes it's fine but not always. seems like the CV is Bad kinda feel but there is no clinking on sharp turns and it's only while backing up. Could it be a tranny issue? I don't know were to start. Thanks for the Help.

could be dozens of things..

does this happen only when you start to move or hit the brakes when you're backing up? it could be the brake pads moving inside the caliper.

could be a bad engine mount.
could be a bad ball joint.

or dozens of other things.

Well, It's just at low speeds under partial clutch engagement. If I engage the clutch fully and the car really starts to move then it goes away. But for parking and that, you never get to full speed. The brakes are off when it happens. So, it's not a braking problem I don't think. There is nothing like this going forward, just in reverse. Any places to start?

possibly engine or tranny mounts also.. is it a "thump thump thump thump" noise, or just one thump?
does it vary with car speed or engine rpm or neither or both?

It's a Thump Thump Thump. Definately Harmonic. It started after going over a section of the road that was cut out for street repair. I parked the car and when I backed up it was there.

could still be one of dozens of things. sounds like it may have jarred loose something on the suspension or brakes though. really can't do much more than this over the internet. your best bet is to jack the car up and have a look-see for yourself, or take it to a front end shop and see if they can find the problem.
could be tranny, suspension, brakes, cut tire, etc etc.

Thanks Matt. I'm just looking for a place to start. Looks like I'll pull out the jack and start taking a look. Knowing my luck....I broke the other CV joint. I already broke the left one on a similiar incident. Damn Chicago Roads.....lol
