Carwash

Dear Disco-dogg,

First of all, let me explain to you the steps of protecting a car:

1.) WASHING- Using a proper car wash loosens dirt off your car body. Using a proper wheel cleaner helps clean your rims.

2.) CLEAN- Cleaning removes embedded contaminants such as tar, overspray, fading, and oxidation. This is Meguiar's Step ONE process.

3.) POLISH (optional)- Polishing restores the paint, fills swirls and scratches, gives it gloss, and a wet look. This is Meguiar's Step TWO process.

4.) WAX- Wax seals the finish you pefected from the three above steps. Waxing is imperative because it protects your clear coat from acid rain, UV rays, and others. This is Meguiar's Step THREE process.

5.) DETAIL (reccomended)- Detail helps restore your detail parts of your car such as the tires, trim, plastic, and chrome.

6.) MAINTAIN (optional)- This keeps your car clean without the need to wash.

Meguiar's produces great products, but to have your car look better than new, spend about $200 on paint care products. After many years of testing, my best results for having a glossy car is:

Any approved car wash is fine such as Meguiar's. For the first time to restore the car, use a LIQUID detergent like Dawn to strip all the wax off your car. Wax works better on paint that is clean, not with bits of dried up old wax. But, I don't reccomend you to wash your car with Dawn as a habit, but if you are going to wax it, do it!

The next step I reccomend is a clay bar. When you washed your car, don't rinse and dry it YET. Rub a bar of special clay for cars onto your contaminated surface, and then hose off without a high pressure nozzle. This way, water will sheet of your paint and minimal drying time is needed. Close and slam the doors. Drive the car around. Then, use a synthetic chamois, man-made chamois such as Absorber (TM), squeegee such as the California Water Blade, or terry-cloth towel to dry the finishing touches.

Then, it's time for polish. I highly reccomend the Zaino Bro's treatment which is a polish that protects like a wax, too! Please refer to http://www.zainobros.com for polishing tips. Also, the most important thing about paint care is probably the towel. About half the money I spent was on towels. I reccomend bath-quality, 100% white terry cloth towels that are made in the USA such as Fieldcrest and Cannon. Check out their outlet site, where it is cheaper: http://fieldcrestcannonoutlet.site.y...yalvelvet.html
They are really important!

Details. Details. Details. You should spend some money on details such as Meguiar's Endurance Tire Protectant, Leather Cleaners, Wheel Cleaners, Window Cleaners, Window Polish, Wheel Polish, Leather Conditioners, Plastic Polish...the list goes on and on... This is purely optional.
