Does anybody know were the ECU is located on a 1996 Maxima..Is it to remove/install or should a professional do this...I was thinking about getting a ECU upgrade for my 1996 Maxima automatic..Is it worth it? Thanks

The ECU is to the right of the accelerator pedal. There's a black cover in front of it held there by two plastic rivets.

The UPRD ECU works wonders!!

believe me when I say it,it is the best mod I have done so far and from the list of mods I have below I have tried just about all of them.About removing the ECM don't do it at 1:30 in the morning when it is 10 degrees out {like I did}because it takes quite a while and was a major pain it the *** to do.Maybe if you had a great tool chest it would be easier.

You thought it provided better gains when compared to a ypipe? if so I might have to get me one of those.

Like Victim64 said,

check out http://www.maximadriver.com there you will find the dyno tests for the Chip.It gained 5HP on the top end but about 20HP in the Midrange,I would not be suprised if the gaines would be a little bit higher if it was not raining out a stuff when the Dyno was done. And last I heard there was like 11 people who wanted in on the Group Deal and that was a few weeks back,so there is a good chance were closing in on around 20 people or more.

Re: Like Victim64 said,

The gains for 95 and 96 might even be better than that because the gains Emax95 is talking about was done on a 97 with a 96 ECU that wasn't made for the car? If you have a 97 let Cheston know ASAP so he can get you a 96 ECU. I think if all the people that showed interest would find the cash and commit we would have over 30 people. So join, join, join, tell your friends, family, and relatives. Why? Because I want the cheapest group deal possible so I can save $$$$....

Cheston, I want to get my hands on one of these 96 ECU for the 97's! Nabil told me there is one problem with this swap though. Something about the design and causing a check engine light. I don't want that so please let me know the status.
