Clean it every week?? I spent 20mins on each rim trying to clean it with a toothbrush and some soap/water!

Looks shiny after!

go with an aftermarket semi-metallic pad, along with waxing the wheel itself. The layer of wax will make it easier to wipe off the dust when cleaning. I've sold a few sets of the Axxis pads to Max owners and tons to Z owners. The Axxis allowed me to go 400-500 miles before I had to clean the wheels. With the stock pads, they'd get black after 200 miles.

not bendix pads, they're dust-freaks.

What about those Brake Kleen Dust Shields that mount in between the wheel and hub, anyone try those?

Not a good idea since it reduces the amount of air flow to the rotors, so they retain the heat.

Brake Dust

I don't like "Kleen wheels" because they look ugly, too! Try a good wheel cleaner such as Meguiar's Gold Class Wheel Cleaner. Spray on, hose off.

A good wheel polish is important, too!

so wheel polish do work?

hehehe...I thought they don't
=]
anyhow...the OEM pads do give out dust...especially on the front rims.....
I usually brush my rims with soap...should return them to nice and clean condition......
and do not reduce airflow to thy breaks..man it gets hot there as is from regular driving....

is it just me?

I noticed that the front two rims are usually pretty dirty after a few weeks--and the back two wheels are usually not too dirty as though not too much braking was done. I am sure they do some braking when the brakes are applied, but they are waaaaayyyy cleaner than the front ones.
I hope I am not the only one noticing this little facet. And does anyone know how much of the braking the front does --65%- 75% of the actual stopping?

I agree with what GOT RICE said about applying a coat of wax and that will definetely help repel some brake dust. I did that a few weeks ago and I noticed 6 weeks later since my last car wash--the wheels are not too bad--pretty clean...

Just about every vehicle does this.. especially European vehicles! It's normal since two-thirds of the brake bias is towards the front, plus, the front pads have a higher swept area (more pad in contact w/ rotor=more dust)

I also agree with Got Rice about waxing your rims. I wax my rims every month or so and spend 15 minutes per rim washing them every 4 or 5 days plus an extra 10 minutes for each caliper since there painted. I use to use ArmorAll rim cleaner but later noticed that is was affecting the finish of the rim so now I use regular car wash soap. I have also found that my front rims get so damn dirty compared to the rear ones but I guess that's expected of a front wheel drive car. The key is regular cleaning with the correct products.

thanks

Yes, same type of wax you use on the body.

Nathan, RWD cars put out tons of brake dust on the front wheels too

Why does everyone say that Axxis pads don't dust? Ever since I put my Axxis pads in, my wheels get dirty so much faster than when I was using the stock Nissan pads. Is it because of the brake conversion? Since the rotors had to be cut down in diameter, does that affect the dusting?
