God I love my Maxima

Forgot how fun the car was to drive... I was driving home and going about 60 when a cat ran in front of my car. In one year I've hit 3 cats (Norco... lots of animals running around)... This time I swore the cat was gonna die, I've never been that close to a cat without hitting it... I saw it just in front of my car dissapearing from my vision (under hood), I pulled on the steering wheel nice and smooth (but fast) the car does this insanely sharp turn and then I correct it with just as sharp of a turn (i was on wrong side of road), and the TIRES NEVER LOST TRACTION... Shows how a properly warmed up set of tires performs And these were the RE92s so I was surpised.

Then nearly 10 minutes ago I'm heading back to girlfriends house and the SAME cat runs in front of my car, this time I slam my brakes from 50 and it stopped FAST... Cat was scared, but alive

About 10 minutes earlier I was driving around in Corona (no cats running accross street. hehe) and decided to floor it for a little bit... In my old car at the end of the street I usually am going 80mph, in my Maxima it went up to 110 with time to spare.

Cool.

And then suddenly the same cat... j/k no more cats for the evening.

Well at least

the cat has good taste! I mean, to lose one of its lives under a Maxima! What a great honorable death among the feline community. Now to be hit by a Hyundai...

Good job...

I'm glad to see that when someone CAN safely avoid hitting an animal they DO try. I hate it when people intentionally target animals on the road. It's one thing when you can't avoid one, but surely another to intentionally aim for one. Good job avoiding that cat and saving it's life. Sad thing is... it sounds like it's not to bright and will probably meet it's death by another car.

I try to miss the neighborhood squirrels but they are suicidal. They try to play chicken with me, they just don't realize that they are always loosing. Feel really bad afterwards.

Maybe another car without the agility of a maxima, or someone intentionally trying to hit the cat.

One time I saw a cat up ahead in the road. It was at night and I was with some friends, so i thought it would be funny to speed up and scare it. I got up to like 90 thinking it would move out of the way. It didn't. I saw that poor cat's body bouncing off the ground in my rear view. There was blood all over my bumper and undercarriage for months.

If there is ONE thing I regret in my life, it was that. Not to sound like a wuss, but I could have easily avoided saving that animal's life.

Now I have two cats (that were strays) and I give an small annual donation to the Humane Society (sniff, sniff). So I am not all that bad a person.....

Good job on swirving to miss the cat. Speaking as a cat owner, cats do just spurt out like nothing. But thats due to how cats live their lives, which is just like humans on thier own terms. But i thank you personally for not hitting the cat

Good job there! At least you guys don't have to worry about FROGS! They are all over the place on the country side of Oahu during the summer months because there are termites everywhere. Believe me, a dead frog is almost as bad as a dead cat, but 10 dead frogs are worse!

These animals that run out in front of cars and get hit, its just nature's way of weeding out the idiots So do your duty and play roadkill with anything furry running around on blacktop. J/K that was sort of cruel.

LOL, you're not doing your part in "cleansing" the gene pool.

The cat is so stupid that it would nearly get run over and die twice in one night. By allowing it to live you're allowing it to keep on having more kittens that will be stupid just like their parent and then the kittens will run out in front of cars too!

By not allowing it to live you remove it from the gene pool and then only the smart cats that know not to run out in front of cars will live and then the world would be filled with smart cats and nobody would ever have to veer off of the road to avoid stupid animals

But I know, it's instinctual, I would have done the same thing and avoided it and tried to prevent taking a life. But if you ever manage to "get one", don't feel too bad, you're doing the gene pool a favor

I hit a squirrel once. He ran across the road and was almost to the other side, then he saw me and the stupid bastard turned around and ran back into my lane where my car ended his hyperactive life.

Am I the only one that thinks my car and my life (and others) is worth more than a cat or squirrel (or duck, opossum, bird, dog, etc)? I always try to avoid hitting any animal, but there are those times when the danger of causing an accident outweighs the need I feel to try and avoid them. In those cases I just do the best I can and hope they duck their heads as I go over!

Well said. When you can safely avoid stuff, do so. However, don't put others or yourself in danger by avoiding animals. Lots of accidents occur with people trying to aviod animals.
