This is the price I was quoted for 225 50 17. 4 tires - out the door. (Road hazard, tax, etc.) This price includes a $55.00 alignment. Does this seem like a decent price.

I kow these tires are expensive, but I refuse to put $100.00 tires on a $30,000 car.

You need to step up and get the 235/45/17 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. These are the best damn tires out there. I love mine. Plus, they have the coolest tread pattern that just looks sweet when you put tire shine on them. I paid $1192.35 for mine which includes balancing, alignment and $89 for the road hazard which is worth it since the ENTIRE reason I had to get new tires is that some worthless piece of $hit cut all four on my tires in my parking garage.

Potenza's are garbage. You can't go wrong with these. The only NEGATIVE is that you feel your pocket get lighter each time you peel away from a stop light racing some zit faced 16 year old with "Mugen" stickers on his dropped Civic DX (No, I didn't mean EX...freakin base model Civic punks think they can take a Maxima.)

 

Costco quoted me $209 apiece for 225/50R17 A/S Pilot Sports including everything. Special order for them, 2 or 3 days. Good deal if your a member or have one close by.

 

If you have OEM rims, jjames, do not "step up" to 235/45R17 tires until you read the post on Page 3 of the FAQs entitled:

Yeah, Tire Rack is $846.82 to my door, but then I have to have them installed. To compare apples to apples, the quote I got for tires only was $834.96.

 

I understand. My mechanic charges me $10.00 per tire to mount and balance them. So I'd still be looking at Tirerack.com or 1010tires.com.

 

Well, ALWAYS do your homework. I got my tires in November and I have zero problems or side effects. The guys ate NTB actually recommended that size as being a better fit. I am not mechanic, but the size diffence is negligible. But read the sticky that y2kse was so kind to post and form your own opinion. Only my $.02

 

Thanks Texasguy. Also, NEVER trust the word of a tire dealer when it comes to proper tire sizing, jjames. Always check the manufacturer's web site for tire specifications. Or if you want to save yourself the trouble, you can simply visit the Tire and Rim Association Contour (Rim Width) Tables on Page 5 of the FAQs. Tire manufacturers conform to the data provided in those tables when they establish their rim width specifications.

 

If you want the warranty. If you order from Tirerack you will save some bones but you will not get the road hazard waranty.

 

available to us needing a 225/50/17 size, it's not the Michelin Pilot A/S but the Michelin Pilot MXM4. TireRack lists it for $186.00 in lieu of the $202 bucks for the A/S but the hyperlink they have to the tire is wrong..when u double-click the icon for the tire it points to the standard MXM not the MXM4. To get the correct idea of what the MXM4 looks like you'll need to go to the actual Michelin web site.

It's a less-sporting tire than the A/S, better-riding, quieter, less agressive overall but supposedly much better riding....I recently rode a Golf GTI with 17" rims that had these tires as factory OEM tires and was quite impressed with both grip and quiet ride.

If you're worried that the A/S will roughen ride too much, these look like a good choice, they are DEFINITELY my #1 choice after the POS Potenzas wear -or I get tired of them

$800 +. $1,000 +, whatever the cost of the tires might be, it is the single best improvement that you can do to your car. Love the y-pipe, love the PIAA Extreme haeds and fogs, love the Stillen intake, nothing can compare to the Z-rated Michelins. I'm no longer an agressive driver, but still enjoy going at full throttle every so often. Your Max will stick to the ground like you've never dreamed. If you like(not love) driving your Max now, I guarantee you'll look forward to driving it after you install the tires. One last thing, I just rotated my tires this weekend, at 20K they look almost new, go figure. Get them, then log on and share with us all your impessions. By the way, stick with OEM dimensions.

 

If you can stand the hit in the pocket - get them.

They are simply amazing in the rain - and dry.

Also, believe it or not, they are wider - even in 225/50/17 - than the stock potenzas. Apparently not all 225/50/17s are made equal.
