Strut leakage >>

Any 5th Geners with leaking rear struts? I'm a 4th Gen guy and my stock struts lasted me 120+K miles. But, I was in a Mavis Tire place last weekend and I overheard the guys talking about how they've had a few new Maximas with leaking rear struts - pointing out to a beige 2001 SE out in the shop with a leaking rear driver's side strut. Just curious...

The rear struts on my '00 SE were both leaking like bloody heck @8K miles. Thought it must have been a fluke at the time.

is Nissan still using Tokico as the OEM shock? Take a look at the shock when you get a chance and see if there are any labels/markings on them (I hate Tokico!)

Agreed. I think that for those who don't plan on putting in aftermarket springs, they should still consider upgrading their struts to the KYB GR-2s for use with the stock springs.

I keep feeling like the driver's side rear is "looser" than the passenger rear. The dealer doesn't see a leak and can't feel the problem. I experience the problem on the highway, around gentle right hand turns and going over a bump simultaneously. I believe it's a bad strut, but the dealer won't do anything. Any thoughts on how to resolve this?

...get under there and take a look. You might have to push the dust boot (accordian looking thing) out of the way. If there is fluid all over by where the shaft enters the housing, you've got a leaking strut. Then take the car in and show the service manager.

Recently added Eibach springs to my girl and yes the stock SE shocks are Tokico models. No leaks noticed on mine yet @ 27K miles though. Damn where are those adjustables at?!

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll take a look and let you know if I see any oil . . .

SEs Use Tokico

The shocks on the 5th Gen SEs are Tokico. You should be able to see the "Tokico" name stamped on the bottom shock casing. They are not that durable - mine blew at 39K miles.

someone should start a petition to KYB and let them know there is a big interest for the 5th gen AGX shocks. They won't start production unless someone gets the ball rolling.

Just installed my rear ASB and checked the driver's side rear strut/shock and I did not find any oil under the dust boot . . . I'll just have to live with it I guess. . .
