Consideing '99 max..need advice

Hey all,
I'm seriously considering a 1999 SE-Limited max w/ tcs/abs/sroof/bose/leather (dark green outside/tan leather interior). I was hoping you guys could provide some insight into this vehicle, such as reliability, drivability after many miles, etc(I am a spirited driver). The dealer I am purchasing it from wants 17.5k (38k miles)...mechanically it seems fit but there are some dings/dents that they haven't gotten out. Originally I paid 100 bux to have them take everything out, now they're telling me a dent on the hood can't be taken out and want me to fork out 200 dollars for it. Everything else is fairly minor parking lot dings which i'm not too worried about. I've considering purchasing a bra and just keeping the top on to cover the dent but then i hear that the paint won't fade like the rest of the car..so a few years down the line when I decide to take it off i'll have this nice two-tone effect in addition to scratches from highway driving. Anybody have any ideas regarding this? Also I was wondering if anybody could tell me if it's a good deal (certified)...17.5 for a '99, or money would be better invested in a 5th gen..newer gen won't look older as quick, more HP, etc.

Thanks in advance,
John

I've got a 99 which I have had since 32 miles. Now I have 85,000 miles and I have not had one problem with it. And believe me I drive HARD. But I take care of it equally well. I think that its worth 17.5 but you could save a couple of thousand if you keep looking.

Or take it for 17.5 and have them take out the dents. I'm sure they would if they know you will walk.

SELs are beautiful cars, and I love that color combo. Is it a 5 speed? If not and you are a "spirited driver" keep looking till you find one that is. Don't put the bra on, and I think the 4th gens look just as good if not better than the 5th gens...I have a 95 SE 5 speed in neptune blue and I love it...

If tcs means traction control, then it's an auto. I would make them repair all the bodywork first. It's a great car, though. Can't go wrong.

Love my 99 Se Limited

62k on it now, 5 speed, every option and no problems...

If your deal blows up on you for the 200 bucks, ( which it should NOT) call me i can get you the car... BTW the price you got is great if the car is clean.. RUN carfax...

I just bought my 99 se-l last week from a member on the board and paid 14750 for it with 18" chrome wheels which was a more than great deal. 17 to 18 seems like the going dealer price though for these cars. however you would be able to find the car cheaper sold by an individual. I don't think the car your looking at is an se-l though because as i remember the se-l only came in Red. I have 45,000 miles on the one i bought and oh it rides Great. I even put an intake on that sucker and man i am in love!!! I have a 90 also and this car is definately a step up!!!-anyway- you may want to look at the cars for sale on this board and maybe able to get a 5th gen for the same price or a 99 cheaper.

Dropped

Thanks all for the speedy responses, definately looking forward to getting a car with this many enthusiasts. As for the car - my dad, who's co-signing it, got ****ed off because they said they would take care of every dent including the hood for 100 and thought it was rather unprofessional of them to ask for another 200. I'd have to agree they jumped the gun early and is rather unbusinesslike for making us pay for their mistake...so he walked . I really liked the color too...btw it was auto/auto climate control too. I'm not in dire need of a car, so I suppose I will keep looking.. . Anyhow, he said he knows somebody selling a maxima in NY w/ near the same features for 13k so i'll be looking into that. BTW, i'm in the richmond, va area...so if you know of anybody around here selling something close to what I was going to buy let me know.

-John
