Anyone Else Having Problems Matching 2k Icelandic Pearl Paint

Is anyone else having problems with matching thier icelandic pearl paint on their 2K maxima.. I've had my rear bumper replaced because of a fender bender and the body shop could not match my paint. The color was too dark. i then bought a Stillen aero kit and had it painted and the color came out too light. A couple of weeks ago, my car got hit from the front and they are replacing my front bumper and fender. I took the car to a different body shop and they could not match the paint either. Is anyone else having this problem or does anyone know a good paint shop in Houston, TX who could match the paint good? The body shop i took my car to said that the paint code QT1 is not the right code on my car. Other body shops also did a test paint using the formula for the paint code QT1 and the color was off also. Need help!!

ah ic... well, I'm not liking the way my car looks right now.. the color on my stillen kit is way lighter then the color of my car and the color of the front bumper is darker then the color of the rest of the car.. i think im gonna try to get the insurance company to repaint my whole car since its their client's fault that my car is in the shop.. if their client hadn't hit my car, my car wouldnt have 3 different colors on it..
what you guys think are the chances that insurance will repaint my car... i would think its slim but its worth a try!!

The paint adhears differently to different types of material such as plastic or metal.

I bought touch-up paint for my 2K Icelandic Pearl and the code is QT1.

I have heard before that Icelandic Pearl (or any pearl paint) is hard to match.

A friend of mine had the bumper of his '95 Pebble Beige Max painted. The shop he went to had this machine that somehow tested his paint (close to the panel to be painted) and mixed the paint accordingly. Did the shop you went to have one of these machines?

Even the factory paint comes slightly different. At my apartment complex there are 3 2K-2K1 Icelandic Pearl Maximas, including mine(also a damn beige 2K2). I've see the others parked right next to each other and one is BRAND new while the other is probably a 2K. I could tell from at LEAST 30ft away that the paint colors were WAAAAAAY different. The older 2K looked more beige/brownish/dingy color and the BRAND new 2K1 looked more cream/pearlish color. I'm almost positive my late 2K built 2K1 is MUCH whiter in color than both of those, but I haven't had a chance to compare side by side yet.

I think it depends on the batch of paint the factory is using. The amount of white they add to the pearl or pearl they add to the white determines the final outcome and is apparently not always consistent. So, when your body shop orders up a batch of QT1, it may vary in color from what your car got at the factory.

My FACTORY spoiler doesn't even match perfectly. In some lighting conditions such as dusk, overcast conditions, or flourescent lighting, it looks more beige/dingy brownish compared to my whiter color trunk lid. I'm betting the spoilers are painted seperately from the car and then attached or it depends on the fiberglass/plastic vs. metal underneath.

yes, my shop had one of those machines.. they had a camera that analyzed the paint and spits out the formula and the types of color used to make the paint. still, the color was off...

pearl

pearl clors are 2 stage, base color plus pearl.
then clear coat.
what makes the different shades is the amount of pearl sprayed on. were they heavy or light swipes? from the factory, the entire car is the same color, because the pearl was applied with even amount of swipes. bumper covers are different because they were painted somewhere else. with different amount of pearl swipes then the car.
so to get the entire car color to match, get the entire car painted over, let the shop record the amount of pearl sprayed, so when or if it gets a bend it can be repainted properly. why? because you know if the pearl swipes were heavy or light. and how many swipes. pita.

Even if they do paint in house or otherwise, how much does that run you?

ya stuff with pearl is a pain to mix because its a powder. i mix paint where i work and i can see how stuff with pearl in it would be different with every batch because its basically just a powder.

Yes, Nissan ****** their body work out. Taking your car to the dealership for body work is like playing Russian Roulette.

Some dealerships subcontract, and some do it inhouse. If you live in ATL, Regal Nissan off of 400 @ Holcombe Bridge is an in house shop. The did a great job on my 95 Altima with a pearl paint.

mine doesnt match at all... the color is close but you can still tell one color is darker.. insurance company is gonna look at my car in a couple of days and see if they will pay for my car to get repainted entirely.. i'm lookin at a lot of ya'lls car pics online and it seams like my icelandic pearl is darker then everyones car.. i was told that this happens when the factory closes for hte day and lets the paint sit on the pipe lines over night.. the paint sits and the mixture settles giving off a different color.. thats prolly why my car is hard to match...
