Clutch & Flywheel Recommendation

I am going to replace my clutch and flywheel soon.. the clutch is startin to make some noises and at 138,000 I guess that is expected.
Anyways from reading up on clutches I am pretty set on the ACT stage 2 and possibly the JWT. Now I need to find a good flywheel that is not going to kill my pockets.. I was considering the fidanza but I dont think that it even exists Also was thinking Stillen or UR. Can someone PLEASE help me out here I would like to hear from some people with a clutch and flywheel. By the way I have PR CAI, WSP Y-pipe and stillen cat back on a 96 se max. All answers wil be greatly appriciated.

Thanks!!

Re: Clutch & Flywheel Recommendation

I dont beleive that ACT has differect stage clutches. I myself will be getting the ACT street clutch kit and im going to keep my stock flywheel. I would suggest getting the ACT Street Clutch, no pucks.

Flywheel- I do believe FIdanza has one, however I'd go with Unorthotox Racing. I was gonna do this mod but ran out of money seeing as its $400+.

Good choice the stage 2 ACT should be perfect, I got the Mod PP, and the Street disc I should have gone with the stage 2 like you just picked.

Yeah thats what I heard about the Fidanza flywheel... any other flywheels out there? The ACT clutch I thought did not have "stages" so is the ACT street disc the same as the ACT stage 2 that the other guy was talking about?
Thanks again

no clue why people name the ACT with the stages. You have the street disc, then you have the two race discs (4 or 6 puck). The only pressure plate available is the heavy duty PP.

Other FW options - Stillen / Mueller

Wait...
Is the ACT Street Clutch the same as "Stage 2"???
I believe that the ACT Clutches comes in 3 types:
Street - 362ft/lbs of torque
4 puck disk - 463ft/lbs of torque
6 puck disk - 463ft/lbs of torque - "Not recommended for street use due to harsh engagement"

Please clarify...

Bobby

Yeah I dont really know i think the street disc is good enough for any max out there I dont really see anyone hitting 362 hp... I know mardigrasmax is close...I read you are going SC so maybe you can talk to the other SC guys.

First of all, Fidanza does make a flywheel for the 4th generation max, but only for the 99 model, don't ask Me why. Second, i recently did my combo and i am happy with my ACT street clutch and my unorthadox racing flywheel. The only prob with the unorthadox flywheel is that it doesnt come with the ring of "teeth" or whatever its called , so i had to take it to a machine shop and take the "teeth" off my old flywheel and put it on the unorthadox; but I got it just cause it's almost half the weight of STILLENS flywheel. So far im happy.

regardless of what catalogs or other places tell you, there is no Fidanza application afaik. The guys at Fidanza even stated that they made a booboo.

99 application only? The FW is the same 89-01.

I have been talking to Bob at Fidanza for several weeks now. They are working on it. Should have one for the VG, VE, and VQ in a few weeks. And it should be less than $400

I just got an e-mail from the sales manager at Fidanza, Tim Andrews,
which says they will have one ready for release in about 30 days. He
also confirmed that the part being listed for 99-00 only is a typo.
Here are his responses to my questions:

"Hello Joaquin......
Thanks for calling this to our attention......actually this is a new
product that got into current catalog prematurely.....it should be
available within the next 30 days.....after doing some research...I
have verified application will fit 1996 to 2000...but in any case
this will work with your Maxima.....check back in 30 days and I will
lead you to the first performance dealers stocking this exciting new
product. Thanks for your help and hopefully you can wait till this
flywheel is ready...it will be worth the wait....as you probably
already know ...Fidanza Flywheels are the Best in the
World....setting the standard with the highest quality materials ,
craftmanship , and high tech designs, all made and assembled in the
USA."

Cheers!
