factory door lock fob is caput

Have a 96 GLE with a failed door key fob (trunk release/door lock/alarm combo stock fob...boy do I miss my keyless entry on my 90 right about now.)

Are there places that sell aftermarket ones? If so, how would one program same to work with current security system? Or, are their available rebuilt ones from the factory?

Asking as these fobs aren't cheap, and I am looking to get two no less. Begining to have trouble with the manual route of key to lock/unlock, but I am not sure if this is because I have reproduction (but Nissan) keys, or that the first owner exclusively used the fob....or perhaps good ole funky electrical issues coming on early.

Any advise is appreciated.

Yes, check the battery first. If thats not it, go to eBay and type maxima remote in the search and you'll find plenty. Just make sure you read through the descriptions so you get the right one, I doubt you'll pay more than $25.

Thank you Max Power! Ebay does in fact have an entire page of these remote fobs listed (new and used). To be honest, I hadn't thought of them...guess one should never assume. Again, thanks!

Yes, thought about this as well seeing as all who are selling these on ebay say they will include the "easy" instructions to program your remote which is said to take only a minute or two. Hmmmm??????

Wasn't the keyless entry offered only as part of the C&C package? Then, if you have the other options that came with C&C - you should have the keyless entry as well. Not sure on the 98's , but on my 96 , the c&c included power driver's seat, lighted vanity mirrors, remote trunk release and keyless.

Actually , the key fob is what holds the code. When reprogramming, you just reset any existing codes in the car itself and "teach" it the code of the new fob. I did this myself when I bought a key fob off ebay. Takes all of about 45 seconds...

Actually , forget the C&C and all that. Just get in the car, lock all doors, and insert the ket in and out of the keyhole 7 times within 10 seconds and see if the hazards falsh twice. If it does, get on ebay and buy a remote.

I got the instructions off the web for programming/reprogramming/
adding additional remote key fobs (see http://www.greghome.com/images/Maxim...oteKeyless.jpg)

and guess what...seems that the code was wiped. The fob is working (although all the symbols are worn off), so I went ahead and bought a used one off of a regular, high-volume remote dealer on EBAY for $19.

Seeing as we only ever had one fob (we bought the car slightly used at 38K miles), so now we each will have one.

Thanks to all for the advise and ideas, I appreciate it!
