Guys, i know this has been discussed before but i wasn't paying attention, so i gotta ask it again now......

I'm about to go synthetic oil, not sure which one is good...
Most people i know use Mobil 1, some have recommended me Redline which is a bit more expensive than Mobil 1.

Some one told me there's also *Royal Purple*. Can any one tell me is it any good ??? I heard it's even more expensive than Redline !!! is this true ??

I have very limited knowledge when it comes to motor oil...so please you experts out there help me decide.
Any suggestion would be welcome.

THanks

oil

i heard royal purple is about 16.99 or so a quart. i think this oil is mainly for racers.redline is 6.95 at summit. castrol cyntec is 4.50 (full synthetic.)i think mobil one is 4.99.a redline oil change will cost 35.00 plus shipping 7 or 8 bucks plus a filter 6 or 7 bucks, thats a fifty dollar oil change.a good one, though. purple will be a 100.

they did a article for this stuff a while back (Royal purple) it actually gave 2 horsepower to like a civic or something. I tired redline oil and royal purple and to be honest i can't feel any difference. I use Mobil one on all my cars because their ads are so good and i believe it will help protect my car better....thou i can't tell the difference between the mobil one and standard mobil either I do beleive i heard that castrol cyntec has more ash content... I believe engine oil is one of the case where you just go with the flow.

wow, i didn't know royal purple is more than $10 a quart, that's expensive....

i just want some better protection for my engine, if 35 bucks can buy me a peace of mind, it's worth it....

thanks for your thoughts sleeper and tetsuo

something u might already know.

mobil 1 is not as good as it used to be, alot of people stopped using mobil one after they reformulated thier synthtics, it's supposidly not as good as the old formula, but i heard from somwhere that they're going to go back to the original formula. i dont' know what's really good or bad anymore since everyones opinion is different. i hear amsoil is not bad and red line is good stuff too, but for all i know, everyone has said the same thing, "can't tell the difference" so just get a well known brand just to be on the safe side, nothing like "uncle jims super dooper synthetics". i'm going with quaker state because it's cheap and i'm too lazy to get oil and the oil filter at two diff places so i just get both at the service dept. since the guy always gives me a "good" price.

Royal Purple 5W-30 is $4.95 a quart at Summit Racing.

Their racing oil is more expensive $7.99 per quart.

i use 4 quarts. u say 4 1/4. i think it should be more like 4 5/8, don't u think?

(just kidding... u never know who's gonna take what seriously, especially since this is a reply to a 'y2kev' post hee hee

4 quarts is good.. no need to open another bottle to "sqeeze" in that un-detectable 1/4 extra quart

i dunno..personally i want the oil level as close to the top line as possible w/o overfilling it. don't know what's going on in there when you're at 6000rpm ya know.
