kept up with a GS400

hey wassup guys, 2nite coming back home at 12, i was at a light and there was a GS400 next to me, but it looked like a 40 yr old guy and i know those things are fast, 300 hp...so i didnt say anything, but then at green, we took off and i revved it a bit to like 3500 and then he pumped catchin upto me..and then we looked at each other and went at it, and i was thinkin he would burn me, but he didnt, i kept up with him pretty damn good, and he got like one or two car lengths ahead on cuz of this one sharp curve that i usually pull at like 30-40, and i was like 60-70 then and i got bad struts so i had to slow it a bit, but after the turn i caught right back upto him, and then we hit another red, and pumped from there and we were pretty even, he got a lil ahead of me and then i pulled on him and then he got a lil ahead on me but it was only like a couple of hundred feet till we hit another red, then i was realy ready for it, i downshifted to 1st and was gonna do the upshifts and O/D off and all that, i take off, and a few feet later he makes a right...grr, i was having fun and felt damn good about our cars...im a stock auto, so i was thinkin if i only had the CAI and Ypipe in already, or if i was 5 spd...but to keep up with a GS400, i think thats pretty good

Thats cool. I would expect him to smoke you, yet he does weigh alot more (i think). But i like those cars, especially the GS430, but they are too overpriced....

I'm thinking it was a GS300 not a 400... a 400 would walk all over a modded 5 speed 4th gen, let alone a stock auto. They run low 14s stock, at like 100mph.

yeh
like 14.3 for a GS400, and they are automatic and heavy... that V8 is potent though, they pull hard.

I have a GS430....and YES it walks ALL OVER my modded 4th gen 5-speed.

They are actually not overpriced at ALL....look at the cars that they compete with....E430 and 540i which are almost 10 grand more with the same features....

they also aren't that heavy at 3600 lbs....same weight as an f-body.

I love the body on those GS's. Once I get sick of my Max (ya right!) I'll pick me up one of them suckers. It'll be a while considering I just got my Max a week ago . Dang I love my car!

I've driven the E420, which is pretty much the same as the E430, which is comparable to the GS430. They all have 4.0 liter V8s that produce 275-300 hp and are mated to a 5 speed auto tranny.

Anyways, my impression of the E420 was that it went like stink to 60 from 0, but, once rolling, and caught off guard, the tranny would refuse to downshift to 1st, and the resulting acceleration from a roll was fast, but not stinking fast. The trannies probably do that on purpose b/c that kindof downshift would probably be brutal on such a high power car.

Is the GS430 like that, too? If it is, then 5 speed Maximas may have a chance in that regard, and maybe that's what happened in this race.

Once on the highway, though, those small V8 abslutely rule

And, by the way, if you have a GS430, why in the hell are you still fixing up the Max? j/k

He was just playin with you. A GS400 down a cylinder would still kill a 4rth Gen...
