My first Car accident today in my Max today

I was on highway doin like 20 mph and it was raining I was following a little too close and i looked down for a second and all i saw where brake lights. I hit my brakes but it was too wet I slid right into back of this guys minivan. We got got out his car was barely untouched so he said lets just not even get cops involved this way I dont even get insurance involved and have it go up on me. Im only 17 so i woulda gotten screwed. But the damage is my grille is cracked the bumper is str8 my headlights are pushed in and my hood wont open or close but its not bent. The hood loatch seems messed up my uncle who owns auto body buis is taken a look at it tomm. But I was wondering if anybody has a grille for my 89 Max SE I could buy or where i could get one cheap. I dont got much money and im tryin not to spend too much. Thanks guys

DOH! **** happens man. least it wasn't any worse. easily could have been.

your best bet to find a grille is to call local junkyards. (yellow pages under "auto parts- used")
that or www.car-part.com

good luck. grille and hood latch shouldn't be hard to find. also take a good look at the radiator and A/C condensor to make sure you didn't bend/damage them. it's common in a front end wreck, even as minor as this one.

Re: My first Car accident today in my Max today

If your Uncle has a body business, then he should have connections to many used part salvage yards. A grill should only cost you like $20, even less if U-Pull-It. I would get all the parts that way, lights, hood, bumper etc. I have done this kinda thing before on more than one of my other cars, with little cash flow! Good Luck

if the headlights themselves aren't broken, then you can simply bend the brackets back into place. pull the headlights out and you may be able to see where things are bent. it may be your radiator core support though, (since everything is pushed back). so you need to be careful if you just go start bending things back into place. good way to crack an A/C coolant line or radiator or stuff like that.

sorry to hear about that. Good thing your uncle owns a body shop and can help you out. Check on ebay for grills sometimes I've seen them on there. Good luck with the repair

stuff happens

I did that too when I got my license but in my GXE but my accident cost me $2400

$400 to pay the guy I hit, no real damage since he was already missing the bumper, and $2000 to fix my car, you got off easy .

My friends here in Ky....

Yea down a few miles outside of Louisville I have a friend who lives in a "hick" part of town - and wow he fits the bill. Hes had a few accidents with his '84 Ford truck/thing where his grill has fallen off, cracked, or just exploded (don't ask about this one) So just do what he does....check the local super-grocery's (kroger/wall-mart/k-mart/WinDixie) parking lot for a vehicle the same type and yank off the grill and speed away. His philosphy :

"If they stu-pid 'nough to try an sell this beau-ee- full peice of ma-chin-ery than they outta not be worried about some-body stealin' the dang front grill.....serves 'em right the idjoit's....trying to sell a tru....(then it just turns to a stream of mutterin)"

This has never really happened but i thought it made an interesting post.....sowwy - shutin up in

i just changed my 90 grill w/ a 94 grill (more chrome and Nissan logo in the center). I have been shopping around for a grill, some junk yards around here want $80-100 (since most cars in junk yards get hit head on, front parts are hard to come by). I couldn't find too many on ebay a couple of months ago, so I broke down and decided to get one from the dealer last week ($100). If you are unsucessful in obtaining a new grill, email me, my old one will be sitting in my closet for a while.

unlike alot of the people here My insurance is under my name on my own policy, I pay $2400 a year for liability(basically money to cover other people getting hurt)with a perfect record.

I payed it out in cash, which sucked at the time but now I drive alot more carefully.

Man that is a lot. I have had mine in my own name since I was 15 and it was never more than $300 a year(liability). I am 30 now and it hasn't change a whole lot I pay $240 a year for each of my Maximas. I had full coverage on a couple cars I got new and they were still only like $300 a year for each. I am glad insurance is low in MS.

Sometimes you can get them to lower your rate if you get them to insure all of your stuff-I have 2 Maximas, an old ford pickup(junk hauler), my house, a mobile home that I rent out not to mention life insurance on my wife, child and me all with the same company so I get somewhat of a discount on each of them.

I mean heck my home is only like $750 a year and that is for a $150,000 policy.

not my own name..why do you have state darm if you are going to have liability because if u have liability then u don't have any "Benefits" so why don't u just get a cheap liabilty insurance instead of State farm, I know there are lots of chep insurance..

because state farm is good, you always get what you pay for, just remember if you get into an accident and your drving with someone elses coverage, and someone is seriously hurt, when you go to get insureance it will be high and who ever name its under may be dropped.

Id rather pay the 2400 and have the peice of mind.

thats cool, i know state farm and allstate are the two best insurance company out there and you will have n/p. but i am just saying thats just too much even for a statefarm liability. My dad has 97 quest and he's been in the Accident for 3 times and got a ticket 3 times but he still pays $1300 per six month for full coverage with Allstate.. BUt what you said is right, stick with State farm and There are no problem with them.. Later
