Crazy suggestion for 2k2 tailights
Crazy suggestion for 2k2 tailights
I don't know why I thought of this today and it would probably look like crap but....
Has anyone thought about covering the chrome area with window tint to get subdue that bright chrome look? I doubt it would hold up with the tint being on the outside but I've seen where people have done the same thing with colored vinyl...
So what do you think?
BTW, I had a 2k before and I didn't like the tinted tails on it because they were too dark in my opinion and blended in with the black car too much.

or you could get 2k taillights without the gay amber and paint them body color

If I get the chance
I'd like to do a complete hybrid taillight conversion. I'd like to put in either the R33 or R34 taillights. Obviously I'll need lots of $$, but my friend's bodyshop should be able to hook it up.

i don't know if any of you have ever seen it before, but when i go to car shows, i usually see a ricer or two with some nice vinyl work on the headlights. like a smoked vinyl sticker and they lay it around the parts of the headlight that won't affect the beam, in my opinion it looks sweet on some cars. so you could probably do the same to the 2k2 tails.
or what about the titanium edition tails?? i hear they are supposed to be smoked or something, but i have yet to see anything on them.

Steve I bought a pair of 2000 GLE tails for I think $90, I busted one those after trying the oven heat trick.
Then I bought another GLE tail from a junkard for about $50, I used this tail and the other gLE tail to cut out my half red half clear reflectors (I still have them BTW).
Then I tried a hair drier on both of my stock tails and of course I busted them up too
($150)Then I bought a heat gun and busted another 2002 tail! Heat gun plus the tails where $220. On the second replacement tail I used a drememl and I actually cut the tail light apart, this method kind of worked but I could never put the tails back together.
So $510 total
Now I know the secret to getting the tails apart, it involves busting one pair of tails to do though . Once I get some spair change together I plan on completing my quest of all red tails.

IMHO the best looking tails are a hybrid of the 2K SE and the 2k GLE/GXE.
Use the smoked charcoal bottom half of the SE tails with the top half of the GLE/GXE tails with the dividing line being the horizontal top of the amber turn signal light. I've made a pair and they look great.
I don't understand why Nissan can't make a decent looking backend on this car to save their souls. They could have done some minor mods to these lights to break up the blocky look but no - they think clears will solve every problem. Instead, they just make the car look ricey.

Where did the bottom half of those lights come from? They don't look as dark as the 2k SE tails, but I can see the carbon fiber pattern so I know they are not 2k2 tails. I would be happy if I could just get the whole tailights to look like the bottom half of the ones in the pics.

I'm actually starting to grow fond of my 2k2 taillights. Although my car is black..not sure if I'd like em on any other color...maybe the artic white.

Oh well, it sounds like its going to be impossible anyway, I guess I'll just learn to love my stock tailights.
I found some spray on smoke for lenses here:

$24 buck might be a little high but if it works.....
