Bracket Racing Win...

Last night at NYIRP I won first place in the Import division of the bracket racing event. This is my first win of the year, and 4th trophy that I've gotten from there overall (2 semis, 1 runner up and now a first).

theblue was also there, but lost in the semi finals to an MKIII Turbo. It would have been cool to have an all Maxima final.

My dial was a 14.5 all night, with a best run of 14.57 @ 94.5. I had one run going that was well on pace for a 14.4, but I missed 4th badly and ended up with a low 14.7 @ 88 or something stupid. All my split times were about a tenth better than my 14.57 run.

The drag radials like the warmer weather. I was dropping the clutch at about 3k rpms, and getting consistant 2.1X 60' times all night.

yeah, we did the best so far on the DRs... now we just need a lot warmer track.. I think I'm going to drive around for the whole day with the radials on so that they are nice and warm for the track

Good stuff ejj5875, I made it to the semi-finals last race and we have our next one on Sat. I have to race against the turbo's and S/C's so competition is hot. Sure makes some folks sit up and take notice of the Maxima's though.

I lost because they put my dial-in up wrong and I didn't catch it, but that won't happen again.

Again, congratulations keep up the great work.

Thanks. Honestly, I was kinda surprised that I won. Typically, if I want to win in bracket racing I am pretty damn careful not to break out (ie - slowing down at the end of a run when ahead, etc).

Yesterday I was more interested in running better times (I really wanted, and almost had a 14.4). So, I set my dial at 14.5 and went all out on every run. Alas, the 14.4 never happened.

Yeah, I heard about that. Nissans have been far and away owning the import class at NYIPR. Two Maxima wins, at least 1 300ZX win (onyx from ubrf.org), etc.

Someone in the staging lanes made a comment to me to the effect of "how fast all you Maxima guys are".

And what's up with the Neons/Cav's in the import class?

Also forgot to mention, I f'ed up and have over a half of tank of gas then entire time.

I had a fun little race last time at the track... I was paired with an 80s S10 with a 350 V8 swapped in, on slicks. He had his girlfriend and a few friends with him in the staging lanes. I'd heard them making a comment about my rice rocket prior to us racing. Honestly I thought I was toast, it sounded mean and with a 350 swap and slicks I figured it would be quick.

He pulled me hard out of the hole due to his torque and slicks, and better R/T, by the 1/8th he was going nowhere and I ran him down on my slowest run of the night... a 14.68 @ 94.x to his 14.80 @ 90mph. I was near him in the staging lanes a few times later, I didn't hear any more rice rocket comments though.

We get a few of those from the domestic guys. This (and many others) comment was from other import drivers. Sad to say, but theblue and I were the fastest imports there once again. There are usually some fast DSM's that show, but not this week.
