c32 amg vs stock engine 2k2 maxima 6 speed

I made a bet with my friend that he will not be able to beat me by 5 car lengths (93 4 door accord / 174.3 inches)in the quarter mile

friend: 2002 c32 amg (auto)
0-60 in 5.0
1/4 mile in 13.7
trap speed at 106 mph

me: 2002 maxima 6 speed
0-60 in 5.9 (est.)
1/4 mile in 14.3 (est.)
trap speed at 98 (est.)

what do you guys think? worth the 200 dollar bet?

I thought u were talking about older C34 and C43, but 2002 C32 is crazy quick. It is supercharged.

With that trap speed you will most likely be toast by the end of the quarter mile. I raced a F150 Lightning who did a 13.5@103, he got me off the line but I was catching up by the end. Ended up being like a 3 carlength difference. It will be a close one, but unless you're racing at a drag strip, I wouldn't want to put 200 dollars on an "opinion" of where the 1/4 ends. Either way, if you do race, get the jump on him and make him play catch-up the whole time.

He is going to be walking away from you bad at the end of the 1/4.

Someone once told me that 1/10 was equal to a car length - and there are 7/10s difference between you.

I think the big question though is - can you drive? Much easier to drive an auto to its potential than a stick.

Now, if this is going to be at the track, you know how to drive, and you know how to get a good reaction time, but he hasn't driven at the track - you'll have a shot.

Don't do it. As soon as he stomps it, his weight will shift to the rear(drive wheels) and smoke you from the door.

Will he give you a couple more car lengths? I think you may need it.

Not trying to flame but how were you catching him at the end? If his trap is 103, he shoulda been walking away.

C32 AMG is a two-door right?

...Is the BMW M5 still the fastest 4-door sedan in production??? We are debating this at work...

The C32 AMG will be almost a full second ahead of you in the 1/4. Ive also heard what Max_Gator was saying above, so I would guestimate 5+ cars easily.

103 is kinda low for a mid 13 second trap speed. lightnings are all torque and low-end power, his initial acceleration was insane, being that he was on slicks and is rear wheel drive. He will hit 100 mph really fast and stay around there for the duration of the quarter mile. Wind resistance starts to play a big factor after about 80 mph and the damn thing is well.. a truck.

It could be gearing, engine powerband, aerodynamics, or all of the above, but I was catching him by the end of the quarter and if we had raced for say a mile, I have no doubt I would have beat him.

Just because a car is faster in 1320 feet, doesn't mean it's faster all the time.

Your right concerning the lighning....actually.....the lightning just may have enough power to beat the Max to 140-150. If I'm not mistaken the lighning will do 160 according to the speedometer. My co-worker has a Tahoe or Suburban with a 454(or whatever) with 290HP and 410lbs-ft torque and he's claiming he will smoke me in the quarter.

To my knowledge all C-class cars are four door sedans. Except for the supercharged hatchbacks.

what do you guys think? worth the 200 dollar bet?
take all tha advantages u can get. dump out all extra weight, spare, jack, even the rear seat (hey its $200) so might as well. and dont forget to drop psi in front tires to 23psi for max grip, and 40 in the rear. take all the shortcuts thats possible to take. goodluck.

we had the race for fun ... no money wager

basically, we set up cones on an empty newly paved road between warehouses, paced 1/4 mile on that road, marked it with chalk, and set up cones as a 5 car marker (1 cone at finish line where he finishes, 1 cone 5 car lengths from finish line where i finish), we had a third party judge our distance.

we only got to do two runs before we saw a cop car pass by and called it a night

first run, he got a really good jump on me while i sat there roasting my tires in first gear ... i started catching up to him at the top of second gear but i ran outa rpms ... it all went downhill from there and he beat me by about 7 car lengths (approx. 2 car lengths from my cone)

second run, i bled the clutch at 3000 rpm in first gear and he had about 1/2 car on me by the top of my 1st gear... he jumped about 3 cars by second gear and finally i lost by approx 6 car lengths (it was really damn close and i thought it was more like 5.5 cars but we saw a cop drive by the far intersection so we took off and called it a nite )
