Could a torn motor mount be causing this...?

For the last week or so I've had this thunking/banging sound coming from the passenger side of my car. It does it when I take off from a stop and occasionally when going over uneven ground (like driveways). Another thing that happens is, when I accelerate it will go thump-thump-thump, with the thumps getting faster as the car accelerates. The only thing I can find up to now is the motor mount on the passenger side is torn. I have PR Poly mounts on the bottom but the other two on the top are the stock ones. My car has 102K miles on it. Do you think this is what's causing the noise, or does anyone have any suggestions as to what it might be?

open up the hood, turn on the engine and rev it via the throttle body so you can see if the engine is shaking akwardly..

I tried that.

The motor doesn't move at all. Those PR's keep that thing pretty locked down. I'm thinking it has to have a load on it to get it to move. I'm out in the shop looking right now with one of my friends that's a mechanic so hopefully we can find something else.

Put the E-Brake on and put it in 1st and put a little load on the engine, off and on, if nothing try it in reverse also. If one of them is damaged you should hear the same thunking noise.

Hope this helps...

What about a busted axle? Check your driveshaft boots.

you might want to check your transmission mounts also..... I have the same problem when taking left curves. It gets louder with speed and only seems to happen when the passenger front side is under load. The front engine mount (bottom of engine when you are facing car) is busted and one of my transmission mounts. I'll be checking it later today.

Haven't found anything.

The only thing I can find is that upper pass. side mount. I checked the axles and everything is fine there. Tried putting a load on the engine with the parking brake on and nothing happened. I'll let you all know if and when I find something. I hope I find it soon though, it's irritating the hell out of me.

Found a problem.

Driver side axle, inner joint is clunking. I'm going to replace it first and see if that fixes it. If it's still there then I guess the pass. side is bad to.
