The Infamous "Cut Spring" Debate Continues...[Long]

So after reading hours of posts (both pro and con) about cutting springs I have NOT come to any conclusions. I'm not an engineer, and I'm just a DIY mechanic w/ no aftermarket suspension experience, so I welcome your comments.

I have a 96 GLE w/ 100k on it. My Maxspeeds will be here today or tomorrow, and I will be putting on AGXs in the next 1-2 months. From what I have read the Maxspeed drop is not exactly the 1.7" drop it was originally thought to be, so I am CONSIDERING cutting my springs. I read that PROGRESSIVE rate springs have "dead-coils" which can be cut w/out compromising structual integrity. Is this true?

I have also read that the stock springs are not progressive rate, so they should never be cut (definitely NOT my plan) How much of a difference in drop is there after cutting say 1 coil off each spring? This is my daily driver, so if this will dramatically change the quality of the ride I'm not going to do it.

Again, any experiences or comments would be appreciated

I would not recommend cutting springs for any reason. But if you do...each dead coil you cut will drop the car the thickness of the spring (approx. .5 inches)
