you could easily find this in search, but i've got nothin better to do so i will tell you... all 4th gen engines came with a 190hp 205tq 3.0 liter engine. some will say that the 95 and 96 are faster due to the fact that they dont need all that emmisions bs on them like the 97-99 so it's lighter, then getting into 5th gen the 2000-2001 was a 3.0liter with 222hp but not to much different of an engine, then in 2002 nissan decided to kick some real a*s with the 3.5 liter 255hp maxima with the 6 speed manual trans (only year available so far) and a drive by wire throttle. So class what have we learned?? "not much difference between 95-2001 engine wise, then in 2002 nissan introduced a 6speed bad a*s" O yeah! all maxima engines are great

ok...he's talking technically....

differences between 95-99 VQ30DE and 00-01 VQ30DE-K
DE has a single long runner intake manifold
DE-K has a dual runner variable capacity intake manifold.

DE-K "supposedly" has a more agressive cam

DE-K "supposedly" has molybdenum coating on cylinder walls to fight engine wear.

DE-K has upgraded electrical harnesses and a different Idle air control valve system that is built into the throttle body.

Other than that they are pretty much identical.

Now if you're talking about 95-99 vs 02 there are lots of differences...including an extra .5 liters, Variable timing control, and a new variable intake.
