Chunger, the tach reminds me of the warm-up process for the M5. The upper RRMs shine red and slowly fade off when the car is at proper temperature.

I'm thinking of going with all red bulbs, but am afraid that the color will be too pink.

They have the blue condom over it, but it shines a hyper-white look to it. To make the gauges shine blue, you need a really deep blue bulb.

Any Idea what bulb would make it look blue like a VW?

. My GF's 2001 Golf has the blue/indigo guages but the radio, HVAC and window controls are all red. Audi's are all red. What I've wanted to do is turn her blue/indigo guages into all red.

Really? I always though that tha blue of VW looked better then the red of Audi. I think you shoudl keep em blue. But I don't know how we can get our maxes blue. Probably haev to remoe the bulb condom and put in a dark blue 194 bulb.

Albertt is right. Red is said to be easy on the eyes, and won't give you the blinding aftereffect as white would. Also, Orange is a great alternative too.
Skeelo, I just PMed you.
Kevin, any dark deep blue tinted bulb will light up the guages blue. BUT, since so much blue dye is required, it blocks a lot of necessary light needed to shine the gauges brightly.

I think I might consider red too if it's better on the eyes, but would red do the same, block the light needed to shine the gauges?

You know how blue and black, dark colored clothing, absorbs light? well, that's probably the reason light doesn't shine too well through blue, because it absorbs white light (white light = all colors combined). Red is a much less absorbant color. Since red is usually associated with HOT, people think red clothing will get hot. Actually, red is a good color to wear on a hot day (it is a "cool" color, no pun), aside from pure white. This also means that it will let a greater amount of white light pass through the glass than blue.
hopefully that made sense
