Navigation (NAV) disabled functions while driving and startup screen

Seriously, someone has got to know how to disable the "feature" where most of the functions are disabled in the 2002 Navigation system when the vehicle is in motion. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, any way to bypass the startup screen when you first turn on your vehicle???

Thanks,
Cory

Re: Navigation (NAV) disabled functions while driving and startup screen

I just bought a 2003 maxima with navigation, and would also like to be able to disable this safety feature, I go on lots of trips with passangers, and would like them to be able to use the navigation system while I am driving. Has anyone figured out how to do this yet?

Thanks
Ryan

It is a legal issue to car companies. It is illegal to be able to use it while driving. It would be dangerous to try to input a destination while in trafic. Its hard enough to drive with *** wipes that talk on the cell , and try to drive... Pull over like I do, and put your destination in . Its not much to ask for the sake of safety .

I disagree completely. I am planning a 10,000 mile road trip with a friend, and would like him to be able to use the navigation system while I drive. This is not unsafe at all. I realize nissan disables this due to liability, much like forcing you to depress the clutch to start the engine. Fortunately, it is simple to short the cable connected to the clutch, so that you can simply pop the car in neutral, and start is without pressing the clutch if necissary. Hopefully this NAV thing is just as simple. Please email me if any of you have accomplished this!

Thanks

Thats what cell phones are for.

I must admit I have disabled that safety feature for most of my customers though.

I would have to say that is annoying that you have to stop the car to put in a destination. In the Mercedes cars you do not have to stop to program the navigation. My suggestion would be to go to your Nissan dealer and ask them to disable that function.
