damn gas door

i went to the carwash the other day, and as i got finished and the guy dried my car, i pulled to the gas pump to fill up. i push the button for the release, and the door moved, but didn't pop open like it usually does! tried 4 time and no dice. called the attendant over and had him push the button while i tried to catch the edge of the door with my fingers and still no dice. tried this 4-5 more times before i could get my door open, and when it did open, it was like it was stuck still. it did not move freely like it did just one fill up before??? any one else have this prob? guess i will have to visit the dealership this next week.

Close but no cigar for me

I've had my SE for about 30 days or so and about 5 days ago the tether for my gas cap came off. I was at the dealer today for my first oil change (yeah, been racking up the miles ) and they have ordered me a new one.

Sorry to hear about your filler door as I thought my cap tether coming was kinda cheesy given the newness of the car but if my filler door jammed that would be real aggrevation.

However in light of my minor issue...I really enjoy my Max. No buyers remorse here folks.

Could it have been because u just washed and there were suds in the crack?? Sounds too simple but did u notice any water or soap inside after u opened it? Just a thought

i had this problem for a little while.

to get it open, have a friend press the button in the door while you jimmy the flap open with a credit card (carefully, as to not scratch the paint).

wd40 the hinge and youre all set.

Same here. At least 2/3's of that was before i moved. After my move it's been a 1-1/2 mile commute for me - both ways!

i had the same problem when i first got my max but it wasn't me who noticed it first.........it was this gas attendant guy and he basically pried the thing open cuasing the hinge to bend in a way that it shouldn't have. I didn'tnotice it till later that night and I had to pry it open (carefully) and bend the hinge back.

After opening and closing a few times (carefully) the stifness should go away.

Haven't had any more problems since....

fill door

what happens when the electric thing that pulls the pin open fails?

can you get to it from the trunk somehow?

what do you do when the electrics fail?

There is a manual release in the trunk near the fuel filler.

Resurrecting this old thread since I have experienced a different type of problem with the release of the fuel door and was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.

Several times in the year and a half I've owned my 2k1 SE, the darn fuel filler door gets opened without reason. If I were a large man I could understand, but I consider myself medium build (5'11", 180 lbs.). The same thing happened with the trunk release once, and that even puzzles me more, since you got to pull the lever (it wasn't the fob since you got to press and hold the button). Has anyone had this kind of trouble with the door levers?

LOL!!!! i guess we have the same weather and same problem, i went to the car wash last night too, too many bird crap over my car, and i hear snow so i figured get the car wash to clean the bird crap first, and then i drove 15 min, to get gas, and same thing, except it opened maybe a centimeter or so and you really have to get a nice finger grip on it to open the rest up. people were waiting cuz its tiger tuesday and it was so embarassing, probably thinking look at this guy 30 grand car, and his gas door won't open lol . i think its the water that stays in the gap and then it is ***** friggin cold out, and it must've froze. that happens to everything. trunk, rear doors, even windows. when you open it up you hear that ice crunching sound. scares the shiets outta me. but its part of winter, oh well

Before I lubricated the hinge with WD-40 to get rid of the problem, I recall pulling up into a gas station to fill up. I proceeded to pop the gas door and it wouldn't open. Not an inch. Not even a centimeter. It was stuck. I was alone so I had no one to press the button while I pried it open with a credit card so I had to ask an older gentleman at the pump adjacent to mine to press the button for me. IT WAS EMBARRASSING AS HELL. We both had a good laugh about it though.

I'm sure it's funny, but the whole purpose of the damn door is to open when you want it to open, and stay shut otherwise. Not to operate (or not) as it wishes. With all the "not so friendlys" out there, I'm afraid of having crap put in my gas tank... sugar any one?

I'm sure any kind of lubricant will work [although some may be more reasonable than others]. Try K-Y and tell us how it goes.

Does the latch which releases the door move at all when you press the button? On my 5th gen the latch is audible so I can hear it "click, click" when I try to open the door. If you don't hear the latch move... something might have become disconnected.

my gas door gets stuck sometimes too. but when i push the door shut and press the release button again, it'd normally pop open in 2-3 trys.

[my general question is:
what to do if and when either the dash switch does not work or the solenoid at the filler door fails.

what then (and you will be low on gas).
is there someway to get at it from the trunk on 4th gen maximas or do you have to pry it open and ruin the paint?

what would a dealer do if you took it in with that problem?

This happened to me recently...<don't laugh> I tried stretching between the button and the door. In the end, I continued to hit the button until it opened.

On a similar note, my old man bought a used 2nd gen Q45 and when he picked it up, the gas door did not open The emabarased dealer fixed it. I guess that one wasn't on their 3,000,000 point inspection (or whatever they claim).

Are you guessing they warrant an infinite number of miles or are you asking about warranties with Infiniti?

I will ask my dad. He's never really been the type to buy/use warranties with dealerships.

I'll get back to you on your question(s)?

i've had this same problem and i'm practically the same build as you. most recent was last week, the weather was like -10C and i went into D&B for 3 hours or so, came back and the fuel door was popped open.

weird..must be the ghosts in the machine

Hey!

Maybe we should install one on the passenger side as well. That way when they both pop open it helps act as an air-brake so we don't have to warp our rotors again!

Hmmm....
