Headlight wiring probs!!!!!!!!!!!
Headlight wiring probs!!!!!!!!!!!
ive done a search on this and came up with nothing, today my left headlight harness melted, yes i have aftermarket bulbs. Anyway i went to the dealership to get a new harness, went to the house to install and after I installed it and turned on the headlights to see if every thing was working properly...it wasnt... left head light is dim as hell, checked the wiring to make sure I didnt have two of the wires crossed and they wernt. When i turn to brights on the bulb gets realy bright... when i installed the harness all i did was splice the wires to the factory wires and not straight to the fuse panel inder the hood could that be my problem? Or could the harness be the problem? any input is apreciated

i soldered the wires together. is the relay what it connects to in the fuse panel under the hood? ima work on it some more when i get off work also the wires on the new harness look like 18awg and the old one is 22awg wire but i dont think thats the problem

but do i need to wire it to the relay of just splice it to the old wiring
, ive wired alot of audio systems as i used to work at a car audio shop but this for some ungodly reason is confusing me on why it seems not to be sending enough power to the bulb

the wires are not directly connected to the switch. it's connected to the relay. I would see if you can follow it back to the relay and see if the relay is damaged. THe relay boxes should have labels on them and also it would help by having a friend turn on your lights and off to see if the right one is clicking... etc. as for the wire, it should go right to the relay that controls or turns your lights on or off. I know I had a wiring harness when I used hight wattage bulbs, but the relays in the kit works but lights don't turn on with it. So I think the wiring in the kit is messed up or something, stopped working after a rain storm. I'll have to take that apart... the relays were still good. if no wiring problems with your car, and the relay is fine, splicing should be no problem. Check your ground connection too.

Do you have an aftermarket harness? If you do, hook that up. If not, the only other thing I can think of is try using the good headlight's wiring to try to power the bad one and see if there are any improvements. If so then the bad side is messed up of course. I haven't looked at my relay box, but for now I'm assuming both headlights use the same relay. Check and see if the relay has two outputs. If so, perhaps the side that goes to the bad headlight is damaged and the good side is not. If this is the case, (two outputs, one for each side) then change the relay and see if it works. But now I think about it, there are 4 prongs to relays, Neg, Pos bat, pos in, and pos out. So there goes that theory. hmmm.... I'm stumped.. sorry dude. As of now I still can't figure out why my aftermarket harness won't work, the relays click so they are energized, but the lights don't light up.
I am currently having the same problem. I burnt BOTH my harnesses, got new ones from DaveB, spliced um together and now my driver side constantlly is running with my brights on and my passenger side is dim as hell! On the dash board the indicator for the brights is lit slightly, when I put them on all the way, they just get dim! WTF is going on? I have tried to re-wire them and nothing, I have been recently thinking about taking them to a shop, but not the dealership. Any suggestions?

yeah the passenger side works fine, and the brights on the drivers side work perty good IMO there also brighter now, personaly i think its the harness, the harness is from nissan its not after market, and as you said the relays are clicking so i know theres power goin through them but i havent got in there with a voltage tester yet to check that... ive had alot of electronics classes with my computer courses so if i can get in there with enough time and patience hope fully i can figure it out and i'll let you guys know what happens, if not im taking it to my local dealership there perty kool about every thing plus im real kool with the owner and hes a member here
I'm having the same problem, my driver side wire harness melted and I bought an aftermarket one, just spiced wires and connected them.. For some odd reason the low beam is not as bright as the passenger side, but the high beam works fine.
Not sure what the problem is.. Just checking to see if anyone had any updates....

i figured out what my prob was try switching the two wires on the harness with the one on the relay(or the old wireing harness wires) i did that checked the voltage comming out of it turned it on and it was working fine again

Which 2 wires? There are 3 of them if I can remember correctly, one is green with black stripe, pink with black stripe, and I think the othere is black. Which one's should I switch? Also would you happen to know which wire is the ground, high bean, or low bean on the factory harness and where at on the harness does each go, ex. top, right, or left??

i believe the pink one is the ground i know on the factory harness its on the right by itself, i think the green one is the high beam but just play with the green one and the black/blue one those are the two i had switched up, im at work right now as soon as i can take a break ill run and check the wiring and write it down for ya
