We don't drive sportscars

Why is it that everyone new to the forum asks how to turbocharge their engine, or if nos can be installed, or if some other part will bolt on? We drive sedans, and they are the best dang sedans out there, but face it, we will never be faster than a real 2DSC, I love my max, and my hobby of makin her faster, but some people gotta realize... if you want 300hp, you are driving the wrong vehicle.

Correction. If you want 300hp, a 3rdGen Maxima MIGHT be the wrong vehicle. There are plenty of '95 and newer Maximas that easily make that kind of power. As for 300hp 3rdGens, you need to pay a little more attention. They exist and have been spoken of. Some are being driven right now.... Search!

One more thing, I guess you haven't heard but Nissan marketed the 3rdGen as a "4DSC" or 4 door sports car. Put that in your pipe and smoke it...

Well you do drive a gxe. IF you drove a 5spd VE you'd change your mind in a second.

any car out there has potential as long as you take the right steps and buy the correct parts. A maxima is like any other car and has potential. I totally disagree with what you said.

I know, thats why I used the term 2DSC comparatively. I am in no way saying that our cars aren't great, I'm just wondering why these people would be willing to spend all that money to turbocharge an early nineties 4DSC. It's been done I know, but lately that's all I see posted, It's almost like we have talked so much about modding our cars that we have started to convince the world that we truly drive the best car ever made. I have talked to a few people now that have bought maximas becuase of this site, and my best friend sold his 96 lumina to buy a max because of stuff he had heard me talking about.

I work on my car all the time, and I love showing off my hard work, but it just burts my bubble when I realize that my vg auto cant even hold its on against the newer cars.

Well there's your problem. VG and auto = slow.

Just don't lump us 5-sp VE30DE 190hp 7.0 sec 0-60 with you guys.

I am afraid that I would have to disagree with you on this one....since I own both a 93 Maxima SE and a 2002 Mustang GT. I love my Maxima and would put it up against the GT any day as far as reliability goes but my GT would smoke my Maxima. It just has a ton more torque and horsepower. This isn't a slam against Maxima's as I love mine but you are going to have to have some serious mods to keep up with a stock GT....

Does anyone know if you compare a 3rd gen max SE with a 2DSC with equal or lesser performance will the insurance for the 3rd gen be much lower? At least the misconception of a car with 4 doors is an advantage in terms of insurance rates.

He's probably referring to the older stock 5.0 liter Mustang GTs. Like pre-1995 or so? Those were what, low 15s in the 1/4?

My VG auto is slow but I have chosen to do the best with what I have. Eventually I will graduate and buy a much faster car. For now, the VG is very reliable and cheap to maintain. It is even enjoyable to drive with the right suspension mods installed.

Horsepower TV featured a five oh stang the other day. It was the last of 5.0 and the first of sleeker body style.

They dynoed it and it made 166 rwhp stock. With exhaust, ignition, UDP, intake, a bigger throttle body, and fuel management, it made 184 rwhp. Correct me if I am wrong, but don't VE 5spd make ~170 fwhp stock?

I like my Max and it's stock, but if you buy marketing hype about the 4DSC then I've got an autographed copy of the Bible to sell you. Like you said, it's marketed - that means some guy in a business suit somewhere earned his pay for the week by coming up with some tag line that will get middle aged men who now have families and never got the crotch rocket they wanted to buy the car over a Honda.

If you put a stock maxima against another stock sedan in the same price range, then yes, it is much sportier. If you put it against a real sports car, then you're gonna lose (I'm talking stock again).

So, I agree with the Newbie's idea that the Max is not designed as a car that will break the land speed record, but yeah, if you mod any car (Honda, Kia, Suburu, Yugo, etc) enough it can be faster.

The 93 Mustang GT made 205 fwhp(roughly 185 rwhp) so it could be a decent contest with a good driver.

The newer 4.6L GT's make around 260 fwhp(roughly 230 rwhp) so it would be a tough challenge to beat one of those(without NOS of course)

I thought that the 93 Maxima SE made 190 fwhp(roughly 170 rwhp)

Isn't the difference between rear wheel horsepower and flywheel horsepower about 10%?

I think only the die-hard Maxima fans will really understand what I am talking about. For the people that really love 3rd gen Maximas, I think it is more of an indescribable "feeling". I've tried to think about exactly why I love my Maxima and I can come up with a few things. Though, there is just this sense of satisfaction when I climb into the driver's seat. Not all owners have this feeling and maybe they aren't as eager to upgrade their's to the max in search of a ROCKET sedan. However, the ones that truly love 3rd gen's seem to be willing to do things others might consider abnormal. Like Vg30et swaps for example. A friend of mine said he respected me for standing by my car and considering the engine swap or building my stock VG up. Though, he mentioned that I should think about buying a newer or faster car if I really want some speed. Well, that's what I would do if I didn't have this un-ending love for 3rd gen's! As far as I am concerned, I will do as much as possible to my GXE until I am satisfied with the power, looks, handling, etc. I'm not sure if I'll ever really be satisfied or if I will keep adding some little upgrade.

I even passed up a deal for an '87 Porsche 944 5spd in great condition (needed paint touch-up and tires). Now, I am a DIE-HARD Porsche (that's Porsch-A!) fan for life. I absolutely eat, drink and sleep Porsche. So, for me to pass up a faster, damn good-looking, great handling car then my Maxima is a true testament of my love for 3rd gen Maximas. Don't get me wrong, I definitely love the 944 and would be completely happy driving one. Though, I just can't bring myself to sell the Maxima. I can't say I prefer the Maxima over a 944 or Porsche in general. I love them both but in different ways. I'll just have to work out a way to own BOTH! Anyways, sorry for my long post guys. I usually seem to write a little much in most of my posts. To sum all this up, my response is that the love for the Maxima is what causes people to want to upgrade them like crazy.

Can any of you relate to this or am I just a freak? My name is Travis...and I am addicted to Maximas (did you catch the Alcoholics Anonymous undertones?!)

This is why I couldn't trade my Maxima in when I bought the Mustang!!! I just loved my Maxima too much. I just wanted a completely different type of car and I can't get a convertible Maxima. Me and my Maxima have just been through too much for me to let her go.... With new pumps and struts now, I think I will easily see 250,000 miles.

Oh, and yes my GXE is a 4 Door SPORTS CAR! It's not the fastest thing around but, I've still cooked some Uncle Ben's from time to time! One thing that many people seem to overlook is TORQUE!!! Check out Club SI Dynos to see what I mean. All the n/a dynos with full bolt-ons can't even get more torque than our friggin family sedans! I always check that website out when I need a good laugh. Maximas certainly do have potential but, I think there are people who just don't realize it or care. That isn't meant as an attack on anyone. I'm just pointing out the facts.
