My friend and I just finished doing the custom red/clear taillight mod for my 98 Maxima and they look fantastic. My friend is an experienced craftsman who does a lot of custom work in his area, so naturally he is the one that is doing all the cutting for the light covers. We spent almost 12 hours total over a couple days testing different covers to see which looked the best and also which allowed the most light to emit through them. There was also a lot of time spent making templates so that as soon as they arrive we can get them back out the same day. If anyone is interested, for $100 shipped we will do the taillight mod for you and send it back a.s.a.p. We realize that most of you won't want to experience a long departure from your car, so we will only use the fastest overnight shipping available (this is the reason that its $100..mostly for the expensive shipping charges we will be dealing with). So these will NOT fit 96?

 

NOTE: This modification WILL NOT WORK for 1995/96 Maximas. This is because the tail lights are a single unit. The Amber in the 95/96 model years is physically attached to the red portion. It's one piece that can not be separated. The only other way to make the red/clear look is to buy clear tail lights and paint them red. David L in New York does this conversion for the 95/96 maximas for a cost (~$175 shipped). (www.maximadriver.com)

ok let me see here.. i charge 190 shipped.. 170 pickup for BRAND NEW Tail lights cleared and Greg aka CustomMaxima.com charges $200 before shipping for BRAND NEW Tail lights shipped.. and you are chargin $100 for just shipping an labor?

so let me do some math here.. lights are $80 retail from a dealership.. so if you were doing what i do.. you would be charging $160 for lights and then $100 shipped and cleard.. so thats $260?

and people say Greg and I are rip off's? you got to be friggen kidding me.. hey.. if i was doing what you do.. thats $190 - $100(shipping and clearing) leaves $90 for two tails.. that would be $45 each BRAND NEW Tail lights? are you kidding me.. and you are using used tail lights? this thread is too freaking funny

we didn't use any paint, it was a flourescent light cover that we used to make the templates

 

actually i don't think u understand very well what i'm offering, i am paying for overnight shipping first of all BOTH ways and they send me their taillights and we do the work for them and send them back, so their downtime is only a couple days, my friend and i did a lot of research and spent a lot of time finding the best light covers to use and creating pieces that fit perfectly, im helping out the guys that dont have enough to buy new taillights from u or greg, if u dont like what im doing thats fine, ur business is ur business and mine is mine

However, there is another .org member who is doing the same thing for $60 shipped. I forgot who it is, but if you search you can find him.

 

that is a good price and one that i would surely meet, but it wouldnt include 2-way overnight shipping, for that is nearly $60 itself with proper packaging to secure the taillights

 

why spend the extra money on overnight? but anyway thats yoru choice.. and i have done overnight with fedex and it costed $20 ask Sarah99GXE .. anyway.. again.. my hurt or anger is not with you.. i appreciate someone who takes the time to do them.. its a b!tch to do.. but my beef is with the people here who said greg and i were ripping them off.. also.. you might want to look into USPS shipping.. i usually get paid on a friday.. buy the lights on a friday.. clear them on a Saturday.. Mail them out on a Monday and with USPS you pay $10 or less and they get them by Wens or Thurs..

I agree w/ Sprint Max on this dawg....i mean, don't you think ur overcharing for us to send you OUR tails and then mail them back. $40 is shipping to you and back. That means $60 in labor....oh hell no. For that price I could probably take it to a auto body shop and have them do for the $60 in labor and save on the shipping! But for real, thats a little high. I just read your other thread for the pieces for $25....now thats a more reasonable. Cuz I can do it myself, just not the cutting out of the pieces.

 

Well, its been a few days now it doesn't seem that many have placed orders. Price and demand my friend, price and demand.

 

Someone posted that another .org member a while back was doing the same thing we are doing for $60 but you pay the shipping. If anyone wants that deal let us know and we would gladly meet that price. Also I don't know how good the quality of the ones that guy was doing for $60 were, but I can guarantee ours are the best of quality. You guys can also check out the new group deal for the pre-cut lenses for only $25.

I don't think a body shop will waste their time doing that.

 

If everyone is concerned about the price, you should just buy the lenses for $25 since that is the hardest part.

 

I dont want to be a ***** but this is a joke mod... 5 bucks 2 hours and a plug in the wall dremel..dont bother paying unless u r clueless about ur car...i hope not..not trying to discourage business or anything. just saying buy an intake or something with your money..if any of u guys r in Western ma ill help u do it for free.

 

You can also argue that for changing a fuel filter, but many people are afraid to do that too andpay an arm and a leg for a mechanic to do it.

Good luck with the deal, doesn't sound bad, some might opt for it, looks like a very good job IMHO.

 

O.k. here's my question... I want to do this to my car and have tried it on 3 seperate ocassions. After breaking the flouresent light cover 3 seperate times, I gave up. What I would like to know is if anybody would be interested in selling just the template, or (prefereably) the signal light cut so that I could install it myself. I have had my taillights out many times, so I am familar with the procedure.

Actually that was my deal awhile back when money was tight for me. I got really good at doing them without cracking lenses and having perfect clear lenses in them, but I decided to stop after the demand wasn't too great. The details of my deal was, $60 for my perfect set of red/clear outer tails for a trade of the buyer's stock perfect outer tails, so basically $60 for a swap and this was only intended for local buyers so shipping wouldn't be involved, but I offered the same deal to those who didn't mind not driving their Max for a few days if they felt they really wanted to ship me theirs and when I recieved theirs, I'd ship them mine in whichever shipping method they perferred knowing that my car was needed every day so I couldn't ship mine the same day they did. I believe my quality is just as great as yours, if not better. If you happen to check out my closeup pics of my tails on my homepage you can see my craftmanship. I'm not trying to steal business from you because like I said, my deal was awhile back. I also offered my matching inner tails for another $60, so that may be an idea you can think about if you really want to get buyers. Anyway, your work is really good and I understand where you are coming from with the whole overnight shipping thing with FedEx, downtime is the role that brought down the demand so I offered the deal locally.

Hmm...I just looked at your tails. They are good, but not perfect, or as good as mine in my opinion. For one thing, you didn't use the optimal type of flourescent lighting cover (I know which one you used I tried that one myself) and second of all, you didn't quite get the cutting down properly. When I zoom into your photos I notice that you didn't quite get the slight curve of the tails, going from narrow to wider as they are going out to the sides. Still looks good though. The inner tails I will do to my car whenever I get a chance and if I feel it makes that much of an appearance difference, then I will start offering those as well.
