I went to the track Fri. night with very high hopes of getting my N/A auto into the 14's. Although the weather was horrible for racing (about 90 degrees and about 80% humidity) I thought I could at least best my last time of 15.05. The car felt horrible the first race. Like a giant white slug sliding down the strip. It would be the first of 3 horrible runs. Turns out my VI wasn't opening for some reason. I ran the first two runs with it closed and the last run with it tied open. Here's the results:

I really hope it was the weather making you car like that, cause you should be able to get to the 14's no problem with that VI I would think since you almost got there without one.

 

Hey man, what launching technique are you using with your car? Is traction a problem for you off the start?

 

I just ran the 1/8 track here and I could not get around 9.9 at 69mph at the end. Ofcourse, it was 85' out with 80% humidity. What I would do for a 1/4 mile track.

 

I get a little wheelspin but nothing horrible. I keep my left foot on the brake and give it a little throttle with my right foot. Not a lot of throttle, just a little bit. I used to give it quite a bit of throttle at the start and I got horrible wheel spin.

I raced an older Oldmobile Aurora on my last race with the VI open. The car dogs at low RPM's when it's tied open so we were side by side until I hit 5K. Then it pulled away hard. My brother was sitting in the stands and he said he could tell the difference. He said the car looked like it just took off all of the sudden. Before the race, the guy in the Aurora asked me if I had NOS and I said I was N/A and he just kind of smirked.

I'm going to go out on my lunch break and see if I can't figure out what the problem is. I'm hoping it's just my vacuum solenoid switch thingy. I have a couple extra of those.

 

That's terrible weather to run under. This is why I'm waiting til the fall to make my runs for a lower time.

 

I knew it wasn't going to be great but I wasn't expecting it to be that bad. I just want to get into the 14's right now. I know I won't be getting my best times until much later in the year when this damned heat and humidity goes away. Maybe some freak cold front will make its way through here and I wont have to wait so long.

 

im impressed! you pulled off a 15.05 with not many mods. your sig says all u have is intake and exhaust? if this is true all i have to say is y-pipe! you will make 14's no prob then. if u ran a 15.05 without a y-pipe u should run like a 14.8 or so with it

I wouldn't "sweat" it too much It's been WAY too hot here in the Midwest. Up here in Kansas City on Friday it was 95 with 70% humidity and a 110 heat induce. I can only assume it was about the same down in Joplin 150 miles away. At nightime, the temps do drop into the lower 80s, but the humidity skyrockets. You can't expect to run good ETs and mphs in this weather. Don't forget that my best time and mph at your track was a measely 15.0@94mph in similiar hot weather and I've got a 5 speed!!!!!!!!!!

I'm running this Wednesday at KCIR for fun with my "Honda" friends and the weather is going to be deep in the 90s. I doubt I'll get into the 14s. BTW, I still haven't recieved my VI yet.

It looks like your VI did help out in topend MPH and some of your ET even though you weren't using the long runners. It looks to me like the VI netted you nearly 3mphs and put you pretty close to what kind of MPHs you get in much cooler weather. That says a lot. In weather like this, I'm usually .3-.4 and 3+mph slower. Don't sweat it.

n/a=naturally aspirated meaning no supercharger or turbo just motor

Are you sure that you've got the Harlan switch on the correct setting? I know when I intially set up my Harlan shift light, I incorrectly set it up for the wrong ignition system and it didn't work. A simple test would be to setup the VI to open at 2000rpm and to have the motor running and open the throttle body with your hand and see if the VI butterflies kick on. Let me know because I will be getting mine soon and I don't want any install hang-ups

15.2 - 15.3 in the 1/4 mile with a 9.9 1/8 mile.

 

The ground wire on the vacuum solenoid wiggled loose. Took it for a spin yesterday and I can hear it when it opens. Can't wait till Friday
night. Hopefully the temps will be a little cooler.

Im anxiously awaiting your result. My VI purchase depends greatly on it. The weather in and around our nation's capital has been awful as well, Im just praying for a cold front. I've had 3 or 4 attempts with different setups at breaking into the 14s but either the weather gets nasty or something out of the ordinary happens (track crash right before Im about to run which closes the track).

My most recent trial yielded a 15.16 @ 80 degrees F.
