I dont know if I should laugh or cry....

I came home to pick up some papers I had left at home for work and decided to flip it on CNN real quick. I hadn't been home for more than 5 minutes when I hear the horendous brake squealing and huge CRASH. I immediately go to the dinining room window and look out to see that some Z71 Chevrolet pickup has skidded into a telephone pole outside of my apartment complex. Geez that sucks I think to myself. I know sooner mutter those words as I see, in what appears to be slow motion, the telephone pole keel over and crash into the parking lot. I look down towards the parking lot to see that this huge pole has landed itself directly upon my Prelude!!!!!!! I gasp a half sigh of anxiety and half of insanity. There is a huge telephone pole laying directly on my what used to be my car. Its difficult to explain what the car looks like. The entire center of the car is smashed in. The middle part of the roof is like 12 inches off the ground, all of the widowns were destroyed, all tires blown out, to make a long story short......the car is utterly and completely destroyed. After I realized what had happened, as the title says, I didn't know if I should laugh or cry. The car that I talked so much about keeping is no more. Obviously its totalled beyond belief. I just thank God that I wasn't in it or that no one else was around. Other fatalities include my neighbors new Saturn and some various landscaping. Well, the guy does have insurance, so thats good. I just had to share perhaps the freakiest birthday experience (it is today by the way) that I've ever had. If it is true that God drives a Maxima, perhaps this was his way of telling me to keep it...or leaving me no other choice....lol

Isn't your Max in the shop right now too? Or is that someone else? If it is, you have by far the worst luck in the universe.

You should play the lottery today. Happy birthday and sorry about the car. Maybe God hates Hondas. Did you have altezzas on it?

Why did the guy in the Chevy pickup hit the telephone pole? Driving wrecklessly or drunk or just being an everday idiot? He's probably bragging online how he crushed a Honda.

No, no alteezas for me. It was 100% stock.

The guy was nice enough. Later 40s. From what the police said, he claimed he was reaching for something on the floorboard, looked and BAM there was the phone pole.

I had the same thing happen me.

I had a 94 Civic EX in 94. I was parked away from other cars (yeah, a civic ) Just me and a new Jetta.

Someone came in and they asked if I had called the police. WHY? "Oh... you need to go to the parking lot...."

Same thing, pickup lots control being an a$$ around a turn, clipped a pole, dropped it on our cars. Mine took all the impact, it was a metal pole (like at the interstate). It actually bounced several times. Took out my A pillers, dented roof, TOTALLY flattened my hood/fenders to the engine. All the Jetta got was a punchure in the roof from a light fixture.

Unfortunately, this guy wasnt insured. And the police didnt want to fault him because he was a family friend. I had to ask him if it was worth losing his job for. he argued that my car was on private property. I reminded him of chain of events and that i didnt mind going to court over it. He eventually filed it (two days later) as a fault accident. jerk.

Needless to say, alot of damage, got a new car eventually. They tried to fix it, but too much was tweaked. Even the suspension was gone. Bummer.

i gotta see these pictures. do you have some with the pole and without?

sorry if the humor is ill-timed. at least now your heated debate on which car to keep is over. in the end, it will all be fine. if you really want a prelude you can get a new one with the insurance money...if not then no big deal.

glad you're alright. and happy birthday.

"It's just a peice of metal that moves" - That's what my mom tells me when I get too obsessed with my car or won't shut up about it. She's right, it's just a souless, lifeless machine (But DAMN is it sweet )

Your Right Maximus1000 it's more important that you weren't there and that no one was killed.

Now, here's what I think God wants you to do with that insurence money: He says "Supercharge my Chariot! (Maxima)" . Maybe you could find a used Eaton Roots type blower and mount it into your Max. Have a shop do all the custom work. You'll have money left over for other mods as well!

You'll be the only Maxima with a roots type blower and you would have KILLER off the line power

Good luck with everything.

Um....by the way Happy Birthday. Hey when my first car got totaled...I got hit by the exact same car, same model, year, make, and even color. I didn't know whether I should laugh at the irony or even cry at it. Just be lucky you are alive and/or do not look like this

Your max is so sweet. By the way, I'd rather have something that provides a lot of top end power instead of all that low end power.. think about it, the VQ35 already provides enough torque for a difficult launch, why mess with it more? Its all about the VQ35DE's low end power and one BIG turbo.. who cares about lag, you'll pull hard..

I do have gap coverage since the Prelude was still financed so luckily its now a clean slate. Interestingly enough, I could get a new 350Z with an October delivery date...... I'm the worlds worst about wanting something new and exciting and the destruction of the Prelude didn't help things at all in that regard. Now, if I sell the Maxima, I HAVE to get something else. This evening I drew lists of cars ranging from G35s, CL-S, and the 350Z (well, this thread is destined for the graveyard anyway...). Or I could keep the Maxima and so some incredible modifications. I'm back to square one again.

good news on the prelude.. I think the G35/350Z may be too small for your needs. I say get a Lexus GS430
