Wet kit and VI
Wet kit and VI
I can see the benefits of running a wet kit, the only concern I have left is wheither variable intake manifold on my car will present a problem for running a wet shot. Will there be problems with fuel collecting in the intake manifold due to butterflys ? Don't want the fuel puddle to ignite in the manifold.... that would suck.

This is a NOS fairy tale because they can't design a wet system that will work properly. They even have it in their manual.
Ya this is a big concern for me too since I should be getting my VI in Dec. then I wanted to get an NX kit. I am not going to go through w/the nitrous unless I am %100 sure that there won't be any complications, are there any 4th gens out there who have the VI manifold and running NX? One more thing (since I don't have any experience with it yet) would there be any problems having an RPM switch for both the Intake manifold and the nitrous?
Just stick with spec that they "NX" suggest and you can spray until your hair turns grey. Get away from the NX spec and your on your own unless they offer you tech help. they will help to an extent don't expect them to take you serious if your trying to spray a 200shot or something crazy like that on your stock block.

Re: Wet kit and VI
I have no idea what would happen with the VI on the Maxima, but my friend has a '00 Integra GSR which comes with a dual stage manifold like the VI. And he just got a DPI kit from NX directly, and they told him to disable the butterflies so they stay open if he's spraying. And on some Honda forums, a wet kit has been known to cause puddling in the manifold due to the fuel collecting under the butterflies. That's not something that a nitrous company can really design around, no matter how good the fuel is atomized, some of it is bound to condense/collect when there are butterflies in the manifold.

I have a VI and I'm currently doing some in depth research on this subject. I'm taking some close up pictures of the VI manifold, the butterflies, the resonation chamber, etc, and sending them to Nitrous Express to get there opinions on Direct Port and Wet nitrous usage with the VI. I will post my findings when I have the facts.
Definitely let me know what they say about this. All the info I have applies to Hondas with the VI's, and I'm not familiar enough with the Maxima VI to know if the same applies. And I'm about to swap my NOS kit for a NX wet kit, and get the VI.

Why would the butterflys make a difference if you......
If you mount the nozzles cleser to the lower intake manifold, aren't they far enough after the butterflies that it wouldn't be an issue. I am working on the NX direct port kit, and i mounted my nozzles pretty damn close to the end of the individual runners. The nozzles are pretty damn low, and the thing hits really hard for only a 60 shot.

I was kind of wondering the same thing about direct port, wet kit however sprays before trottle body so I can see how it can possibly get affected by the VI.

Not sure who told him that but the NX
tech support has never heard of it either. Especially with a DP kit the fuel doesn't even go through the throttle body.

Does this have a butterfly system similar to the MEVI? I am more than willing to take the plunge. I spoke to NX tech support and they could not forsee any problems.
I have one more call to make and then I will be installing. With the amount of manifold vacuum present under WOT, the only time there could maybe be a problem would be right at switch over. I am going to be using a MSD window switch and there is the possibility of setting the pills in conjunction with the normal RPM switch so that everything happens at the same time.
I really wish I had taken pictures of my VI in detail prior to installing it.
If anyone has any pics please post or email me.

You can use couple of windows switches to make sure you don't spray during switchover... (one switch to activate from starting RPM to slightly before switchover RPM and then another one to activate from swithcover RPM to the redline) it doesn't take that long to switch over though, so I'm not sure if it is really nescessary to stop spraying.

disabling the butterflies doesnt make sense, wouldnt they stay close if they are disabled? i know a couple dudes take the butterfly plate out all together, they all say they lose some downlow torque, but their high is end is better. either way im running a direct port wet kit to my h22a w/o any problems.
