Going to the track for first time this Sunday..probable e.t.'s? tips?

A few months ago, I dynoed ~267fwhp/~331fwtq with the RPM switch set to activate at 3400rpms. For tranny mods, I have the VB upgrade and also a ProTorque hi-stall torque converter.

Hopefully this Thursday, I'll also be able to finally install my VI to help with the high end power since all you N20 users know that power dies up top. At the track, I'll probably be running drag radials (~25psi?) and MAY take out the passenger and rear seats.

Any guesses as to likely e.t.'s? Any good tips (Jime???? )?

I know this could be posted in the drag forum, but heck, it's also nitrous related..=)

Cartest shows a 13.4 @ 104mph with a 2.2x 60'. Hmm I don't have a VI + n2o dyno so expect to run slightly faster . If you don't have much of a traction issue you should run mid 13s around 102-105mph.

Thank you! I've always gotten good, relevant answers to my questions from you in the past..and this time is no different...I appreciate it!

Hey Calsonic

Not sure what I could say that would help. I didn't spend much time with the D/R's but my best runs were done in the 15-16 psi range. Whatever pressure ends up being optimal you have to keep a close eye on them between runs because they can go up by 2-4 psi per run and need to be bled down to keep your optimal pressure.

I think your launch is going to be your biggest challenge because of traction with the HP and Torque Convertor. You may have to get slicks or just have to live with a part throttle start if you can't get enough traction. You may be ok if your D/R's aren't too small, mine are 205/45/15's I got them mainly to reduce the overall gear ratio but they make hole shots more difficult.

Shifting is much better left to the transmission in my car, I couldn't find a shifting combo that was better than leaving it in D with the OD on. It gets much more difficult to shift the more HP you have because the shifts are much closer together and harder to keep from over-reving, that coupled with the lousy shifter that must be handled with kid gloves to keep from going into the wrong gear or much worse neutral.

I was planning on going to T&T on Sunday but don't think I am going to be ready, just got this car so have another week or so of work to do before I am ready to try it out.

Good Luck
Jime

What can you share about the daily response and driveability for the ProTorgue converter...?

I have seen a few posts but not heard how different it makes daily driving...I am fairly sure I understand how it helps an auto at the track...just thought I would ask.

Jime - Thanks for the tips! I haven't practiced launching with DR's so I still have to find the right RPMs. You also disconnect the auto tranny resistor, correct?

Kev - Yeah, it's the California Modified Imports event at Sac Raceway. Wanna go? I asked Matt if he wants to go, but he said he'd rather go to T&T or Wednesday night drags at Sears Point (Infineon). He doesn't wanna wait in the long lines. I wanna go this Sunday, but he's trying to convince me not to... I dunno...

Wizza - Daily driving is hardly affected. You can sorta feel a very, very slight sluggish feeling when you go from a stop, but I bet any one else wouldn't know you had a high-stall torque coverter. The daily driveability is 99% of what it was before the high-stall torque converter. With regular street tires, the torque converter is a waste because you'll just smoke em...with sticky high performance tires, it's better....and finally, I can't wait to try out the DR's or slicks.

If it interests you, then go for it. Bring you brother so he can be your one-man pit crew.

HIN is on Saturday and I'll probably be dead tired since I can't leave until the end of the show. Good luck if you do go!

Here is my dyno thats a 100shot with VI. You'll notice the spike, which I still can't figure out.

I don't have a RPM switch(have one, but dosen't work) so my VI is activated when I press the horn. This allows me to see how the VI effects nitrous. On any nitrous run, when I open up the VI it seems that the power gets alot smoother and builds alot quicker at any point when I'm spraying. But on the dyno I had the VI open @4800 you can see the small jump in power.

From the way the graph reads it looks like the nitrous hit, cut out, then hit again Now I really want to finish putting my nitrous kit on

I have the same setup as you Calsonic. I ran a best of 13.3 @108mph, but had a lot of traction issues as Jim said. Even using full slicks, on stock 15" rims, and heating them up I had traction issues. I haven't run on D/R, but will probably opt for that this year. The full slicks killed my top end. That best time was on regular street tires down to 20psi and a decent launch.

It's hard to estimate ET's, but if all the planets aline...you should be in the 13's easily. Where in the 13's, it's hard to say until you get a few runs in and see how the car reacts. There's a big difference between 13.9 and 13.0, but the difference can easily be from a simple bad launch, missed shift, wheel spin, temp, altitude, etc....

As for the driveability on the Protorque: I am with you also, it's not noticeable at all.

Hate to bring this back from so far back have a question. I read that the cvt is restrained because it cant handle to much torque. Do they even make a converter for the 2007 maxima or would it even work. I asked this question on the other site and the reply was "i dont think the gains will be that great my man...........". On my camaro it was easy to pick up .3 tenths and up to .6 if you had traction. What is the difference? I know different transmissions but isnt he priciple the same?
