Thinking about nitrous on my 2k4, questions.

I haven't played with nitrous since my Z28 in the 80s. Back then it was a Moroso system, 2 stage, 20# bottle in the trunk. I leaned it out once the result of which was; Holley butterflies, all four, folded around the throttle shafts, all four studs ripped from the intake and best of all seven of eight top rings pulverized into dozens of pieces each. On a small block chevy it wasn't that big a deal to tear it down and start over. It was my hobby so I just built it back bigger-n-better than ever. At that time I was able to get a new block and pistons, have it all machined and back in business all for about $2,200 DIY.

The same type of damage would be catastrophic to my Maxima. I doubt $2,200 would buy the parts let alone machine work and labor. I'm getting to be an old fart and have no desire to tear into the VQ.

My overall experience with nitrous was great. The lean out was my fault and it never happened again. I'm not afraid of it. After the lean out I injected obscene quantities with no resulting engine damage.

If I install one on the Maxima I want a high quality system with integrated low fuel psi protection. I don't want to add gages to the car, I'll settle for less than the maximum possible performance to get a better more reliable system.

Is there such a thing as a complete kit that is compatible with the VQ? What is the maximum 'shot' that will work with the OEM fuel pump and injectors? I just want to arm it and have it come on at WFO throttle. I'm not trying to run 12s. I am most interested in dropping the 0-60 times.

Any one recommend a turn key system for such an application?

If I were you, I would look into the Nitrous Express (NX) Wet Kits. Also, for fuel, you can get a fuel pressure safety switch. As far as shot goes, people have ran 100-150 shots in the 2k2-2k3 with no problems, but for what you want I would say 50-75 is more appropriate. A great way to improve 0-60 is new tires

100-150 shots on a 2k2 wet kit?

The highest Ive seen is 100 shot and thats me...

If you want to run safe and not worry i would get an NX single stage kit# 20923. No more than a 75 shot and I would at lease recommend a nitrous guage to see what pressure you're at. You dont want to run lean/rich. Pressure needs to be monitorized..

Trust me when I say this.. Just go all out...
Its worth you're new car

Thanks for the feedback.

I think the consensus is that there is not a kit with everything I'm asking for. Low fuel psi protection etc... And now I'm thinking I'd want a regulator on the tank too. I'm OK with a gage in the trunk to use for set up but inside the car is out of the question.

I'll look at the NX kits. Thanks.

I swear by NX but I do believe ZEX is actually as turn-key as you can get. Basically blow and go. It does everything for you.

and OT but those 6th gens are really starting to grow on me. I've met all sorts of people who absolutely love the styling.

NX has a Fuel pressure safety switch..
It cuts off signal to the fuel and nitrous solenoids when fuel pressure drops to an unsafe level.

Take a look at the g6 forum, a sticky about Photoshop... The car with the horizontal slat grille is giving me a little chubby.
