Quick - 2 1/2" or 3" y pipe?

Thanks for checking this out. I need to get a y pipe very soon and search isn't working for me. I'm installing nitrous and want to know; will a 3" y pipe hurt me around town when I'm not spraying, and since the rest of the exhuast will be 2 1/2, will I gain anything when I'm spraying? What about noise? (y pipe, b pipe no resonator, stock muffler) Thanks again.

I remember sx7r had a 3 inch y pipe when he was spraying a 125 shot I believe. It really all depends on how big you are gonna be spraying

I'm sticking with 2.5 all the way back to a 5th gen muffler, even if I do run up to a 100 shot

http://www.mccordcg.com/mpp/mpp.htm

Those are the two compeating companies that are reasonably priced. My McCord power plate should be here by the end of next week. I already have my Summit 2.5" Cutout that I will weld in place. Just bolt on this electric cutout valve and flip and switch.... Open headers!.. then go back to stock again just as easy.

Since a 4th gen motor is very similar to the VE, I can somewhat estimate it. If you have a stock exhaust with a cat and you install the cutout before the cat somehow, I can see you shaving 2 tenths in the 1/4 mile. Which is about 8hp maybe. But don't expect more. You will lose a lot of low end also, but will gain some high end. Since I haven't experimented with this just yet, it's hard for me to tell. But my plan right now is to test it at the track in Las Vegas and see how it effects my times at different points on the track. Then, I will probably leave it close at the launch and open it after 3K rpm.

But the only reason I am getting this cutout is b/c I am a track ***** and I want to be quiet on the street. So, I am going to remove my testpipe and cut a section out of it and weld in the Summit Racing cutout I have. And then install my stock muffler. I already have the stock Bpipe, so my setup will be very quiet once again. I can't wait. Hope this helps.

not flaming anybody but .2 sec in 1/4 is almost 20 hp f thats true i'm buing it today . and for the loss on the low end i'm thinking of somehow linking the cutout with rpm maybe with rpm selector just like the mevi but in case we'll call ve i think it's a good idea

I would have to estimate one tenth in the 1/4 mile being more like 6hp IF the better quarter mile time is STRICTLY due to a HP increase. Something like a Ypipe will give a HP increase of something like 15hp at most. I shaved 3 tenths as well as many others on this board. So if that's true, for every 5 HP, you shave one tenth.

I recieve my McCord Power Plate electric cutout today. I hook it up to a spare battery and it works great. Very nice quality piece. This weekend I plan to do some welding.
