what rpms do all you auto guys hit the nitrous at in first gear. I used to hit it at 2500ish.. but that was with a bad knock sensor and no bottle heater. Now if i do that i spin all the way through first gear.. which seems kindof worthless. (by the way tires arent bad). so when do all you guys with a similar setup - 75 shot w/ bottle heater - hit it.

are you pretty much WOT at the last yellow light - cuz you just stomp the gas at the last yellow - you pretty much hit it as soon as your foot gets all the way down on the gas? I've always done it at 2500 rpms because i've heard it is even harder on your internals to hit nitrous from more or less a dead stop? is there any truth to this?

 

I wouldn't recommend anything under 3,000 that's usually the universal rule of thumb with everyone I know that sprays. I didn't spray till 3,500 when I had a kit on my max and that kept my traction under control. If you spray too low in the RPM range and happen to bogg you might have a nitrous back-fire

Q. How high must the RPM's before activating nitrous?

A. The RPM level is not as important as is the motors ability to rev freely when the nitrous is engaged, I.E. If the vehicle is in low gear, nitrous can be engaged at any time, but if the vehicle is in a higher gear moving at a slow speed when the nitrous is engaged the engine will detonate and damage will occur.

I have always sprayed right out of the hole ie 1000 rpm and never had a problem. Of course I only made 135 runs last year.

This tale about low rpm is true if you are on the highway somewhere and in 4th gear at low rpm and hit the spray and the engine cannot rev, its not a 1st gear rule. However I bet if you ask 10 guys the question 9.9 of them will tell you not to spray out of the hole. They are the ones I like to race against.

Of course if you are running street tires don't spray until you can keep traction. With slicks I have sprayed a 150 shot out of the hole with my 4th Gen but the 3.5 will only take a 50 anything more and it breaks loose.

 

sweet. i guess its just gonna be a matter of figuring out what rpms i can hit nitrous at without just standing still burning my street tires away lol

 

Actually, about 3100-3200 seems to work fine on the move (for me and my street tires)...

 

75shot on street tires dont break mine loose at 3,000, it's solid traction.
