WS Y pipe causing P0420?
WS Y pipe causing P0420?
a few weeks after I put on a WS Y pipe I started getting P0420 catalyst efficiency bank 1.
I thought maybe there was an exhaust leak, but 2 mechanics have not found one.
now of course the WS pipe does not have the precats, so is that simply the cause of this? but if so, it seems like we'd all be getting the code.
anyone else??

In November 2010 I installed the WS y-pipe with the high-flow magnaflow CAT and bosal catback. A few months after installing this exhaust I was getting the P0420 cel code. It appeared once every 3 weeks at first then by August 2011 it was showing up every day. With inspection coming up I first went for the easy way out and inserted an L-shaped spacer with that O2 downstream sensor.
In November 2011 I decided to remove that O2 spacer and find out if this lifetime warranted CAT has failed within a year. After removing that O2 spacer I got the P0420 cel code within 5 miles. I used Nissan Datascan on my laptop to get readings from all fuel mixture sensors. The MAF, TPS, upstream O2 sensors and downstream O2 sensor all were within specification. The P0420 code goes off when the ratio of the signal frequency from the right bank front O2 sensor to the signal frequency of the downstream O2 Sensor exceeded a critical threshold value.
I threw the OEM CAT back on in November 2011 and haven't gotten the code since then. The high-flow magnaflow CAT that WS distributes is not made for a Nissan but for a Buick. Magnaflow will not cover the warranty because their CAT was installed on a wrong vehicle. WS will not give RMAs because they don't want to get targeted for distributing CATs to wrong vehicles.
