Air Mix Door Motor issues

Well it's that time of the year where I start using A/C, come to find out my car's heat is STUCK ON, and it's not the compressor, I'm positive it's the Air Mix Door Motor is stuck with just full heat on.

My question is, is there a way I can jimmy rig this thing so I can always get outside air/air conditioning?

Where do I even look to see what it's doing? I did the auto a/c diagnosis and got a -26, meaning it's my air mix door/mode motor.

I'm about to get the voltemeter out but I have no idea which harness/plug is the one for the motor, the fsm has such descriptive diagrams :rollseyes:

If I can't jimmy rig it open and the circuitry test out fine, my next question is... are all of them compatible? Hell I can get an air mix door motor no problem, as long as it doesn't have to be for a 99 maxima with auto a/c, that's what I'm afraid of.....

//Edit, the pics below show the actual motor, I just used manually opened the door and used the motor and a paperclip to hold the door to the side I wanted it.

//Edit

This is the Air Mix motor, it's not currently functioning, all I did was just unbolt it, move the door to the cold position (towards the back of the car), and move the motor back so it holds it like that.

So far, a 95-96 Maxima w/ Manual a/c motor looks the same but the harness and connector are nowhere near the same (Got it for $1, don't care lol)

There's a motor for that also, if you have digital A/C you can run a check for it.

If you don't... well errr.... yeah..... There's always the visual inspection!

You need the "Mode Door Motor", not the "Air Mix Door Motor". It is on the drivers side of the main duct about as high as the radio..

Ehhhh, it's easy to change ONCE you get to it.

Got one here in stock but it's for a 99 w/ Digi A/C.

Connections are most likely going to be different.

IIRC the air mix door is no longer available for the manual HVAC? I wonder what the mode of failure for these is? Broken gears would be bad, although the gears from the mode door might fit inside the blend door. Also the contacts inside may just be corroded with green crud, or the motor needs to be freed and lubed. There are various videos on the web for repairing these types of actuators.

here is a photo of the air mix door motor out of my 97 max. It stopped working because of corrosion on the contact fingers for the PBR (right half of photo).

You need to remove the arm that connects the motor to the air mix door, otherwise the gears will pop off when you split the motor into the 2 halves because they are sandwiched together. If you can get the motor apart without the gears coming off, you need to mark their positions otherwise the contact fingers and the PBR (left half of photo, bottom center) will be out of sync. There is probably a calibration process to be followed when assembling the motor, but there is nothing in the FSM about it.
