Need help with my order of rear shocks.

Hi,

So I took my car out of storage and did a massive cleaning for the mold that had accumulated...now I have another problem..the car bounces like crazy that it's not drivable. It's the rear shocks.

I have a "friend" mechanic that will install it for me, but up to me to get the pieces...I'm planning on selling the car next year and don't need any fancy racing high performance shocks..something that can last 1-2 years is great.
My car is a 1997 maxima auto.

Can someone help me with my order and make sure I am ordering the right thing.

I think it's one of these two that I need (shocks).

or

Have I got the right part?

BTW: The price here for 1 shock was $150 BGK, which is way too expensive for me and this old rusted car.

Thank you!

To be technically accurate, the Maxima does not use shock absorbers, it uses struts.

Either of the 2 selections should fit. Why the BOGE 30D25A is not for French Maximas is a good question.

Actually we have coil-over shocks in the rears. Struts do not have rubber bushings, but rather mount rigidly to the axle/steering knuckle and act as a structural member.

Do I need to buy the mounts too?? Not sure if this is sold separately or not.

Depends on the condition of your current mounts. I bought Sen Sen shocks and struts from eBay and reused my mounts and springs with no problems.

For just a year I would pick up a pair of Sen Sens.

+1

OP there are very good deals for sensen struts on ebay. There are positive reviews here on the org and if you are only planning on 1-2 years then that is your best bet. You can get a set of 4 for the price of 2 monroes, maybe cheaper.

As you stated, a strut is a structural member. If you remove a shock absorber, you can get in and drive the car. Remove a strut and the car sits on the ground. Whether the strut is bolted to another suspension member like the original McPhearson design or the design has been modified to include include rubber dampeners, it is still a structural member and is a strut.

You can call it a swizzlestick if you like, but that doesn't make it one. Supporting the weight of the car and holding the wheel/axle in alignment are two separate things.

You should not promote the misuse of automotive terms you do not comprehend, it is irresponsible on your part.
