Excuse if this thread sounds trite...

At almost 100,000 miles OVER a 1/4 of a million miles...the need for a new car is looming over me. Most likely I won't finance or lease since I here about the hells people go thru trying to keep up with a car payment. But, Ive drove lots of new cars, and the difference is substantial in ride comfort and quality along with technology.

I'm even uncertain if I want to get a car in the 2000s with all the newer electrical components and supposed covers over engines that prevent anyone from working on them. But, going into 2017...a car as new as 2007 is considered exempt from odometer laws because being over 10 years old, and also if I ever decide to drive uber or lyft, I can't do because my 97 is way, way too old.

However, I had to pick my friend up from the Chevy dealer the other day. His Malibu with only 18,000 miles started malfunctioning on him. I joked with him, they're prolly going to have change out his transmission under warranty lol. People think they're free from worry with new cars.

depending on how next years finances look like, I'm def looking at Infiniti or the maximas when they came out with the fat rounded shape for the first time...

I hate new car payments. Too bad Uber and Lyft screw you that way. My 98 I30 interior looks like new. My co-workers marvel at the shape its in.

You're not kidding about new cars. My boss has a 2015 F-150 with every option available. Not a cheap truck... price-wise that is. But shortly after purchasing it the radiator started leaking. The dealer acknowledged it was a problem they were having, but they couldn't get a radiator for a week.

I made sure to give him crap about that since he likes to turn up his nose at my old Maxima. At least I got 250,000 miles out of the stock radiator.


When I bought my Maxima my primary vehicle was a 2005 Dodge Ram 4x4 Quad Cab with a Hemi. As gas prices climbed to the $5/gallon range I picked up the Max to have a more efficient daily. I've kept it all these years and still love it. Many others have come and gone along side it. The Ram was traded for a 2010 Nissan Titan, then a 2009 Suburban, and most recently my 2006 GTO. Before the GTO I also bought and sold a 2002 Pontiac Trans AM WS6 and a 1980 Jeep CJ-7 project.

I'm in the market for another truck / suv and am leaning towards either a Yukon or Sierra Denali. The Suburban was pretty good, but I want the extra power of the 6.2L. At the same time I'm thinking of picking up a newer but fairly cheap sedan to take the Maxima's place for work commuting. Even if that ends up being a newer Maxima (perhaps one of the rounded ones you mentioned) I'll still keep the '96.

 

People think I am crazy for driving around in my '98 Maxima, but it has 113K miles, zero rust, looks great, gets great gas mileage, and is fairly quick because of the 5-speed. I can well afford any new vehicle, but I love the Max.

 

New cars today aren't what they are meant to be, the older cars were built to last. Hence why they are still on the road to this day..I wish car companies still carried that mentality but due to safety laws.. yeah it really killed the car game. Not only that, I could imagine all the new cars that carry so much electronics in the car.. It could be much more expensive to repair in the long run.

 

I have a 2014 Rav 4, which I love to drive because it sits up high and its paid for. Its easier on my back than my I30. But I love my I30 still. I still drive it more than the Rav 4. My back will attest to that. I love the power that the I30 has.
