Mod recommendations

Just bought a 2016 Maxima S in September, and I've been waiting for the perfect time to start dumping money into performance/aesthetic mods. My tax return seems like a great place to start.

I've never owned a sedan worth modifying, so I'm kind of stumped as far as where I should start and what'd be worth my time and money. The warranty makes things a bit tricky as well. Here are some of the things I'd like Maxima-specific recommendations for:

Suspension lowering
cold-air intakes
exhaust systems
Wheels (19" or 20")
Sway bars

If you recommend any kind if aesthetic mod, pictures would be great!

Thanks in advance guys.

Unfortunately, I'm in Virginia (subject to annual state inspections), so I can't go with the Y-pipe since it requires a cat delete

The rest looks promising. Thanks!

I´ve understood that the cats required to comply with the law are the pre catalytic and the post catalyitic converters, the 3rd in the Nissan V6 engines are unmetered, so you´ll pass any smog tests, but not the visual test, if it is carried out......... I hope someone in this forum could confirm my saying.

I like more the Stillen rear diffusser than the OEM one, but it was not available when I
wanted to purchase.

I'm pretty sure they don't do a visual inspection for that, but if that delete happens to throw code, I'm sure they'll go looking.

I definitely like the Stillen Diffuser, that'll probably be my first purchase.

Unmetered, means the ECU will not throw a code for sure.....

About the diffuser.....you have a good taste......

ADD::::Regarding the wheels diameter, in the post SR vs Platinum, Lou a fellow member, commented "SOME of the SR's cornering capability comes from the 19" Low Profile SR wheels", but the negative aspect, is the tires...very few options and expensive versus 18" or even 20"

Right. I'll probably end up with 20's for that reason.

Any suggestions as far as suspension lowering goes?

Personally, I am not a fan to lower the suspension......troubled and expensive (coilovers) mod, harsh ride, nasty aesthetic (in the extreme option), and bad condition roads in my daily commute...mainly....

But, the racinglineperformance owner and designer, owns an Altima so, he recommends Eibach Pro Kit Lowering springs kit or Tein coilover kit.

Will the racingline performance Y pipe bolt onto the 16 Max SR with the stillen axleback already installed? I'm looking at getting this mod soon as I get some more info on compatibility.

I am pretty sure that the Y pipe bolts onto the OEM middle pipe with the resonator and this one bolts onto the stillen axleback., no problem...

I've contacted RacingLine Performance several times thru their web site, thru their facebook page and called. Never once heard back. Just simply asked this question to them for several months without a reply, so I'm hesitant to order.......

Joe@Taz at Nissan Forums Altima Premium Member is hard to find because he has another primary job....communications not its stronger point and RacinglinePerfomance is a small business...

You could contact him at
https://maxima.org/forums/private.php?do=newpm&u=40301
http://www.nissanclub.com/forums/pri...o=newpm&u=1134

You have to cultivate the virtue of patience and perseverance with him, because his products worth it......been there done that.......twice (2010 Altima SR V6 and 2016 Maxima SR)

its a chameleon headlight wrap. I found mine on eBay for $3.89. It's holding up good so far. I cut a piece a little larger than the fog light and heated it up with a blow dryer and then trimmed around the edges

I don't use my fog lights but I did turn them on and the light shines right thru. It might add very little color but not much

I've got an SV; I did a k+n typhoon CAI, stillen rear diffuser and front splitter, stillen rear sway bar, resonator delete with 3" stainless tips and straight pipes in addition the racingline Y pipe.

The front sways isn't an option as of yet, stillen do not plan on making one as they said the OEM ones are buried too deep to get to and not worth the effort to change.

I've done about all I'm willing to do outside of brakes (maybe?) And I enjoy the car quite a bit. If it had a better Trans, I'd go for more power but... can't hate on it. Car treats me great, and I get a lot of compliments on its sound.

Good luck and have fun w/ your mods!

Cool My Mods

Installed a Front Air Dam to improve aerodynamics at higher speeds...

Replaced front Fog Lamps with LEDs to improve looks and provide a little more light (although that sort of defeats the yellow 'fog lamp' purpose) ...

The nissan rear diffuser and the nissan rockerpanel moldings are a rip-off the only diff from the standard rear diffuser and the optional, like on the platinum model are the latter is chromed and $400+!!

THe rocker panel is equally expensive and really barely shows in my opinion. I chose a stillen rear diffuser that will really make a difference in appearace and almost half the cost of the chromed diffuser, and saved the money on the rockerpanel moldings.... used it somewhere else on the car and hopefully there will be a better rocker panel aftermarket made......

Side by side at the dealership is the best way to judge the Nissan Rocker mouldings. I think they are just right for the effect. From what I read here though, many of you dislike chrome of any sort. If that is the case, then save the money.

The diffuser is also one of those items you could live without but I like the factories version over that ricey toothy look from Stillen. Its all personal on what you select. I agree that these options are not cheap but I am impressed with the great factory look right out the door. Pictures just do not do this car justice.

I truly respect your opinion, but automakers like Ferrari installs "the ricey toothy look" rear diffuser, at least in the 488GTB model, other versions of it in some others models. Seems that the Ferrari designers consider it a sporty look and an aerodynamic enhancement (well, this mod and the rear spoiler installed in the maximas are an aesthetic enhancers, only)

I installed one in my 2010 Nissan Altima SR(sold) and I wanted to install the Stillen version in my brand new 2106 Maxima SR but it was not available just yet, so I purchased de OEM version.

Thanks for the Ferrari version which is way the spoiler looks from the factory. Respectfully to all, my point is that we don't have a Ferrari so the inclusion of that type of spoiler to our car doesn't seem like it belongs. IMHO. A long time ago, I had a Chevrolet but I got a set of Cadillac hubcaps and put them on. Result: I still had a Chevrolet with Cadillac hub caps. No one was fooled. While the Maxima is a very sporting looking car, it will never be a street race car.

I got to second the opinion that keeping some chrome is a good thing. I'm not a fan of too much black, and I don't like the black wheels .

But I'm a real sucker for great lighting effects. Grill lighting, wheel lighting, ground lighting. I've not ventured to try any of it myself but I'm impressed every time I see it

I have really have enjoyed the ground lighting both for safety and looks when approaching or leaving the car. When I ordered my car I almost didn't check that option but fortunately our rep showed us what it looked like on the showroom car. That sold me on the rocker panels, lights, and the lighted door sills.
