Should I buy the new maxima ? Thoughts?
I'm currently in the market for a car and I got my eyes on the maxima, it's a cool car and I like it but I was wondering, is it a good reliable car? does it have any issues, and yes no car is perfect but is there a problem you encountered where you were like "fudge I wish I didn't get this car"
cause I heard a lot of negativity from ppl on this car, and I hope they are wrong.
thoughts?
btw I currently own a 1989 Cressida 😂😂

I currently own a 2016 Maxima Platinum (by the way, my 10th consecutive Max since 1987). I have never had any major issues with these vehicles. Some generations have been better than others. I can tell you this...my two favorites were my black '87 Maxima 5 speed manual and my current '16 white Platinum. I have always gone for the top level Max and have been thrilled to drive each. I can't comment on the other models.
DEFINITELY... The car is a thrill to drive as a daily driver. My other car is a 2011 370Z 6-Speed Touring with Sports Package, modded for handling and power. I get a thrill driving either car - one for the luxury, power and sporty handling, the other for sheer power and tight sporty handling. Either way, sometimes it is hard to chose which one I want to get into and drive...

Yep... the Maxima is an amazingly good looking, sporty, luxury sedan that you will very much enjoy every second behind its wheel. It is also a head turner, just about as much as my 370Z is....

Funny you ask. I had my oil changed last week and the dealer service guy asked me how i liked it. I told him its like beauty and the beast. Love every second i am in it. Asked service if any issues with this model and he said nothing out of the ordinary. If you can afford it, find a good deal w options you want, i say get it.

I have owned nothing but Maximas since October 1984. The reason I have owned each generation of Maxima starting with gen 2 is that I love the styling, I love the sporty drive, and my Maximas, though not always perfect, have been far more reliable than the U.S. brands I drove from 1949 until I switched to Nissan/Datsun vehicles in 1978. Consumer Reports has virtually always shown the Maxima to be above average in reliability.
I have owned a 2016 Maxima Platinum since September, 2015, and so far, it has been very reliable, and I love the way it drives.

Nice looking Max. You buy it from North Park? Don't know why CR rates them so low. I have two, an 03 and 08. Love them both.
Took ownership March 2016. Love the power, handling, refinement inside. See a couple of the 8th generations on the road, but not nearly as much as an Altima or an Accord. That's a good thing... I sort of wish I upgraded to one with the Bose... But I wanted to keep my payments down and do have more flexibility in upgrading components down the road.
Had a little surface rust on the muffler tips but that happens to all cars. Costs more to fill up than my 4 banger but twice as much fun. I don't think I can go back to a 4 cylinder again after driving them for 8 years. Unless maybe a turbo. Just doesn't have that punch of a V6.
Car is still new, but this is the highest quality Nissan I've been in. Big improvement over the last generation and other models which seemed to have a lot more squeaks and rattles.

Caranddriver gives it a 5 star rating:http://www.caranddriver.com/nissan/maxima
Keep in mind this could drop a couple years from now as the competition gets better.

The things that CR complained about were not reflected in the specific numbers that were measured in CR testing. I immediately felt that the test driver simply had a preference for other vehicles. He specifically faulted the CVT, but, after 69 years of driving, I know a good tranny when I drive one. This Maxima CVT is good. Period. And as to his comment that the CVT kept the Maxima from being sporty, note the opinion of Motor Week which I have included in a paragraph below.
We also need to understand exactly why CR downgrades a specific vehicle. Sometimes it is because of things in which we may have no interest.
I find the CR reliability ratings somewhat useful, as those are based on actual completion of comprehensive written surveys by dozens of thousands of subscribers.
It is also good to look at many sources when trying to build an opinion about a particular vehicle. For instance, Motor Week chose the 2016 Maxima as their Four Door Sports Car of the Year. They specifically said that, although they are not CVT fans, the CVT in the 8th gen Maxima seems to have avoided the shortcomings of previous CVTs, and they really liked the way it performed. This tells me that CR must have been rushed (they have hundreds of cars to test and a publisher's deadline), and simply threw in their long-held dislike of the CVT without actually extensively testing the new Maxima CVT.
I know I love my 2016 Maxima, and also note that CR actually rated the Maxima in the middle of the pack in its category, with some of the higher rated cars being hybrids (not for me), and one being the Chevy SS, a car that never took off, and which is being dropped by Chevy. Yes, I am a CR fan, but will say they sort of dropped the ball on the 8th gen Maxima.
Consumer reports gives high marks to cars with lots of interior space. The Maxima feels great in the front seat but the back seat is a little tight if the driver has his/her seat all the way back. CR loves the Avalon! (A great japenese version of a Buick) Boring though.
The CVT is here to stay as evidenced by Honda adding it to the Civic and Accord. I agree that the Nissan CVT is really a gem compared to the earlier versions.

Just bought the 2017 Max Plat with Medallion Pkg. Very satisfied. As I compared the competition in the class (Impala, Azera, Cadenza, Avalon), the selling points for me with the Maxima were the styling, the amount of features included, the interior, and of course, the V6. It is a lot of car $4$ and I'd encourage you to compare each of the class competitor's side by side to the Maxima. It is such a comfortable car for me, and driving it is super enjoyable.
If you can snag the Platinum with the Medallion for a base of $36,400 (with the dealer discounts then add tax and doc fees) you will be happy. One thing about the styling, it doesn't jump out at you like exotics do, but when you really analyze it in person, its is one cool styled car. least favorite part is the grill, the chrome boomerang and the round emblem. However I do like the black mesh back grille, Nissan needs to figure out their grill since they put this chrome smiley-thing on all their vehicles. Other than that, the styling of the fenders, roof line A, B and C pillars and rear are all very sleek and intellectually designed.

But the most intentionally boring car in terms of styling goes to the 2017 Passat. WHoo! The entire car from front, sides, rear, looks devoid of any styling. And that VW grill is...tragic! The wheels are about as exciting as the wheels on a space-saver spare.
