I have a 2002 SE with a 6 speed. I installed a new cv axle that I picked up at the parts store. none of the parts store carried the seal so I picked it up at Nissan. the day after I installed it I noticed the seal was leaking. so I picked up another seal and a socket to fit over it incase I had messed the seal up tapping it in around the edges with a small socket and hammer.
I installed the second seal and I still have a leak.
could it be for some reason that the cv axle isn't the right one and is slightly smaller and isn't fitting the seal properly?
yes they most likely gave you the wrong seal at nissan. i have had this happen before. the passenger and driver side seals are different sizes. either do the research yourself for the part number, or ask them to double check.
The left side seal is part number 38342-81X00. It has an i.d. of 1.535 inch.
The right side seal is part number 38342-81X01. It has an i.d. of 1.299 inch.
The aftermarket axles could be a POS, I used two different brands and they all had issues... I went to junkyard and bought OEM ones and fixed those up.
Similar story with other aftermarket parts too (sadly).
I slacked off on it and ended up putting in new differential bearings as well as input shaft bearing and front counter shaft bearing.. to my surprise the rear shaft bearings are sealed and the gear oil in the tranny doesn't seem to even lubricate them...
