Have you by any chance changed out any lights? Like switching to HIDs or LEDs? Just happened to me and it turned out to be a blown fuse when I changed my brake lights to LEDs. Changed the fuse and the FEB warning light reset.

If the fuses check out, try checking the fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir. If low, fill to full mark with FRESH brake fluid. Brake fluid is inexpensive, so don't try to keep opened brake fluid more than a month or two for later use, because, once opened, it does not keep very well, even if the lid is closed tight.

If that solves the problem, you should be fine for the next year or two. But if the problem returns within the next year, you have a brake fluid leak somewhere, which the dealer must fix.

ps - If you need brake fluid, use either Nissan Super Heavy Duty Brake Fluid or equivalent DOT 3 brake fluid (the equivalent is available at any auto parts store and most convenience stores). Do not buy any brake fluid container if the seal under the lid has been compromised.

Also be aware that the Forward Emergency Braking System sometimes does not function if the sensor is covered with snow or ice or mud, etc, or if it is snowing or raining fairly hard.

And don't count on this system to completely stop the car. As soon as you hear the alarm alerting you to a possible impending collision, hit the brakes yourself to insure you make no contact with the vehicle ahead of you.

It's an important warning light. It needs to be taken to the shop. 2 months ago I had a similar problem.
It was first noticed when I was driving using the cruise control. It would cut out and the warning light would come on. I had no FEBC during that time and no cruise control. When I shut the car off and then restarted it would be back to normal or so I thought. While driving the car [ without cruise control] for at least 20 minutes the warning light would come on,meaning no protection.
I took it to the shop. They had no experience with this problem but made some corrective reboot of software really not sure what. It has been fine since then.

Ironic that I posted my post above on 4-18, then, just a few days later, after picking my car up after having had the entire double-panel sunroof assembly replaced (major job, requiring, surprisingly, the removal of the SEATS from the car), as well as the ABS actuator replaced (again, a bigger job than I had expected), I encountered the same combination of warning lights appearing while sitting at a long light with my foot on the brake pedal.

Even as I was looking at the lights, I suddenly realized the brake pedal was very slowly sinking, and the car was beginning to creep across the crosswalk and into the six lane main road. I quickly put the shift in park, waited until the traffic light was green, then eased across the main highway and into a convenience store parking lot. I checked the brake fluid reservoir, and, as I expected, the level was slightly below the 'add fluid' line. I purchased a can of DOT-3 brake fluid at the convenience store, filled the reservoir to just above the 'full' line, and nursed the car back to the dealership (twenty miles away).

The mechanic at the dealership said the Maxima brake system is a lot more complex than just a few years ago. He said there were now SIX fluid lines running out of the Maxima reservoir, and the one running to the forward emergency braking system was leaking. He said all the lines were a little delicate, so he had to be careful to get them tight, but not overtightened, as that could crack the lines. He snugged up the leaking one, filled the reservoir to the 'full' mark, and things have been perfect since then.

This double-panel sunroof had been making a few little unexpected sounds from day one. I'm not sure Nissan has all the bugs out of this design, even though I had the same roof on my 2009 Premium for seven years with no problem, other than occasional strange sounds. I must admit that strange sounds make me uneasy.

My wife was driving, and we had our son and granddaughter in the car, and granddaughter was sitting in back with me. Granddaughter wanted the roof open, so at the next stop, my wife pushed the button to open the roof and there was a very loud pop and the ceiling material from the sunroof came loose from the roof and draped over our heads. We got the roof to reclose and stuffed the ceiling material back around the roof assembly so it would be out of the way until we had time to deal with it.

That was last fall, and this month we finally had time to get Nissan to work on it. The tech found a piece had broken, allowing the main roof part to crush the little wind foil at the front. The design is such that the parts could not be replaced, so they replaced the entire roof. It seems to work now. The surprising thing for me was that, in order to get the new roof in, they removed the seats from the car. Must have been a snug fit getting this big roof inside the car and up to the top of the cabin.

I still love the many wonderful features, styling and performance of this 8th gen Maxima, but will not use the double-panel roof as often as I would if I trusted the design.

FEB warning light...

So Nissan was not able to fix the issue, after spending about 4 hours. They told me they had to order the sensors from factory and have me come in so they dan work on the car for a whole day. Car just has 650 miles on the clock. Paid 39k and it comes defective from factory. The guy was like its an item that is back order meaning that a lot
of ppl are having the same issue and that they will call me sometime next month

Sorry you are having such a difficult problem right out of the gate. It sort of sounds like they may be guessing when replacing the sensors, in which case, replacing them may not solve the problem.

I agree that hearing the words 'back order' is not a good sign. At least you can drive the car. But for folks who pay attention to the warning lights on the dash, it is not comforting to see a warning light staring you in the face everywhere you go.

My sympathy. Please let us know of any developments.

I got this light in a heavy rain the other day. It is the radar system, so with it illuminated I imagine cruise and forward collision warning/braking won't work. When the rain lightened, I cycled to the "warnings" page in the instrument cluster display and the light went out. Haven't had a problem since, but also haven't had any rain since. I will be asking about it next time I have the car in for service which will probably be in a couple weeks.

Honestly, the first day i got the car rained, the whole week rained. I was on my way home and one of the heaviest rain falls came down. Had the wipers on max, i still couldnt see a damn thing. The light came on. I turned the car off it was great soon as i turned it on. No light yet, after a month it started to come on and off. And then it just stayed on. It was the most annying thing ever. I had to wait 9 months basically to get it fix. So make sure you have your dealer check it out next time.

Anthony Feliu - Since you first reported this problem back in April, I had a stroke in May, hospital stays in June and July and spent all of August in a harness with electrodes running to all points of my chest and a recorder/transmitter on my waist, so had almost forgotten your problem. I am now well, and so is your car. At least I hope your car stays well. Thanks for updating us on the situation with your car.

So glad to hear you are better! That sounds like it was a serious and scary medical situation. Hope you are back at 100%! No lingering side effects I hope.

Nothing wrong with your car, FEB is working as designed. Look in the owners manual, Starting and Driving section 5. Lots of information about FEB.

Lol. Im Glad you’re doing alright as my car is just sitting in front of the house just fine. They had a lot of those new 16-17 models coming in for the same problem. But they told me it had to do with the brackets that hold the sensors. But ended up replacing everything just in case. Bumper to bumper is amazing. 😂.... i hope u had full coverage too. Will be taking the car on a roadtrip to canada. From NyC to niagara Falls with the wife. I will tell you how it goes and if the light 💡 comes on or not during anytime of the trip 7hour drive, but the maxi could prob do it in 5.

I was lucky, in that I have no residual problems, and can still enjoy driving my 2016 Platinum every day. Yes, things were scary for a while, and my wife was very concerned, but I still plan on living to age 100 (not terribly far away), and enjoying my Maximas every mile of the way. Thanks for the kind thoughts.

Wow light, when I read about your stroke, for a second there I felt as if you were a good friend of mine. Auto experience and personality-wise we seem to have a lot in common. I enjoy your posts and hope to read many more, until you reach that 100 mark anyway.
