First time posting here so im hoping i can get at least a few responses.
I bought a brand new 2017 maxima platinum a few months ago and i absolutely love it. I am a big highway driver, mostly in traffic (thank you boston). That being said, i already got a few paint chips in the front of my hood. Nothing too crazy that a little touch up paint cant fix, but i dont want to end up touching up my whole hood
I looked online for bug/rock defelectors as well as the clear film that goes over the hood and i have yet to find any real stuff. Does anyone have any recommendations? Pictures would be great too.
I have paint protection film on my 2016, and had it as well on my 2005 and 2010. It is NOT impervious to rocks, but it is very tough.
You want quality film, and a professional install. This is not a good DIY project unless you have major skills. My installer did the front half of the hood, the bumper, front edge of the fenders, mirrors and door cups, plus my window tint for less than $700.

$700 is a good price, I had the same done and it ran about $800 for the same coverage. I've had the film installed on my last 5 cars and it is great. Excellent protection and not noticeable.
I had a 3m clear bra professionally installed for $300 Canadian. I only did the hood, measures 12" up the hood and it flows to the side fenders. I didn't bother with the front bumper as this is plastic, can be touched up and will not rust...rust is my biggest fear
I went with LLumar protection film. Cost around $425. This includes the hood, front bumper, front fenders, headlights, fog lamps, door edges, mirrors, the A-Pillar, about 10 inches of the roof and last thing is the luggage area in the rear bumper.
I feel if your going to protect a car like ours protect the whole car. Spend the extra dollars to protect the entire car. You can't control a rock from hitting the sides of your car. You spent the 32k -42k on the car so spend the extra green on full coverage.
I had the Xpel Ultimate self-healing film installed on my Chevy SS a few months ago. Pricey, but well worth it in my opinion. 5,000 miles later and I have zero rock chips. By that mileage on my unprotected Maxima I had several.

Your aluminum hood will not rust like ferrous metal.
