I just wanted to know if 19's would fit a 3rd. gen max with stock susp.? If so, what width rim and what size tire should I go with?

 

YES. they will, my Q is is this a show car if not don't go bigger than 17 IMHO

in my opinion, the maxima body is too small to be riding on 19's. you need a bigger car, like an S 600 or an expedition

 

if you're gonna put 19" rims on your max, you might as well put a lift kit on it and turn it into a rally car!

 

I had 19x8" wheels on my max with Suspension Technique springs so YES they will fit. My max looked 20 times better with the 19"s than with my 17"s. Tires for 19" wheels are around $150 - $300 each... yeah.. it's expensive. I wish I had pics of my max with the 19"s... I bought them before I drove down to the beach.. then after I got back from the beach I returned them! 19"s are for SHOW CARS not for daily drivers... I learned that from experience. The ride isn't that bad like most people would think. You really have to watch the road for bumps and potholes otherwise you might pop a tire. Also, be careful when going around turns.. cuz I swear I could feel my rim touching the ground when cornering.

 

I'm not sure why anyone would want 19" tires on their 3rd gen Max. Too expensive!

Check out tirerack.com for plus size compatability. My guess is that they would not recommend going over 17". Regardless, you do not want to increase your tire outside diameter. Width should not exceed whatever size came stock on the SE. Looking cool at the cost of not being able to turn the wheel without rubbing the wells is not cool at all.

 

So according to what you wrote, Tirerack doesn't want you to exceed 6.5" width? HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA... I think NOT! 17x8" wheels (my daily rims) are perfect for me and perform very well over stock wheels.. it provides excellent grip when cornering and helps keep traction slightly.

Hey' Skymax did you have problems with the the wheels scrubing when you try to turn? note**(if I get the 19's I'm not going to drive or corner as hard as I do with my 17in. MOMO"s)

 

Had no problems scrubbing or problems with turning. They fit without rubbing the wheel well.. you just need lower profile tires which is a PITA while driving on rough roads. Did I mention I managed to warp all FOUR 19" wheels in a week?

 

Warped em? Howd you do that? I've never touched anything with 17's even when I had a low tire (25psi instead of 44psi)....How'd you do that Nevin?

 

I appologize. Call me conservative. I guess that I've seen too many ruin the functionality of their cars with a poor tire selection. Although looking cool is important, I think that most folks use their Maximas as daily drivers-- not show vehicles. I may be wrong.

I checked Tirerack for their largest recomended size. Turns out that they go up to a 225/45-17 on a 7.5" wheel for a 92 SE. I may be a dope, but I think that selection would look pretty cool on a Max. And It would sure be nice to drive the car on lousy Pennsylvania roads.

 

Oops, I missed one. Tirerack goes up to a 225/40-18 on a 8" wheel for a 92 SE.

 

It's all good... Don't worry about it. Everyone is here to learn something. Your right, not everyone here uses their maxima as show cars. Most use them for daily drivers. People don't go out and buy 17" wheels just to look cool.. it also helps performance and handling. 19" wheels is an exception... with 19's you lose comfort and handling isn't improved much but apperance factor is greatly enhanced. I think 18" and beyond is the point where wheels lose their functionality.. 18" is kind of pushing the limit. I have had 15x6.5" wheels, 15x7" wheels, 16x7" wheels, 17x8" wheels, 18x8" wheels, and 19x8" wheels on my max before and I have driven with all these kinds of wheels. I am not saying that I am an expert, cuz I'm not. All I'm saying is that I have had experience with different types of wheels on my max.

P.S. Driving on PA roads is terrifying with 19" wheels.

Yeah this thread is so old, it's from the days where it was physically possible for 1mm thick aluminum sheet metal to slice through steel and concrete structures.

 

I had a question and I realize it's an old thread.... Again a 18 x 7.5 wheel will fit under a slightly (1.5") dropped 3rd gen right? If I don't get a response than I'll just test fit them...

 

 

 

That's a clean Maxima Bro! So that's looks like either stock or Eibach Springs! So my 18x7.5 is a cake walk!!! You ever had any wheels powder coated in H-town?

 

 

SAB's is who I used for years if I had a bent rim or needed touchup...They're asking $250 ea for refinishing...I know I can do better than that....I love the wheels and my Wifey left the wheel cleaner on to long and it chemically burned 2 wheels...So I bought some new TSW's and they're 18 x 8 and look sexy and great on the 5.5th Gen...So I'll use these ACE wheels on the 3rd Gen...

 

 

 

Yes 18's are n.p. I actually had 245 wide with eibach's on mine which was between an eighth to a quarter of an inch from the rear shock and eventually went down to 235. 225 is whats recomended in 18's for the speedo. 18's look sharp in the wheel well but depending on the weight of the rim can be a little hard on the front end imo as so would 19's especially on lowering springs.

 

250 a rim seems really steep. I guess if you were only doing one and they're expensive rims but otherwise I would never re finish all 4 for what you could get a new set for.

 

We are keeping the maxima flags flying high in central Florida as well GRNMAXDON. Three here in the oOrlando area that are daily drivers..
