uncomfortable clutch pedal, anyone???

I don't have giant feet or anything (Size 11.5 US), but for some reason, the clutch pedal placement seems way too low for my foot. If I try to depress the clutch all the way without my heel touching the floorboards, the left side of the toe of my shoe will make contact with the connecting bar (to the pedal) which makes pushing the pedal all the way down more difficult.
On the other hand, if I use my toe on the pedal, my heel scrapes and I have to almost work the clutch ballerina style, with my foot in a "high heel" position, which I find quite unnatural, and painful during extended periods of stop-and-go driving.
My question is whether anyone else has a similar problem, and if there is a solution. I had a 96 Integra before, and never had trouble like this. I know that a new clutch takes time to break in and my foot and calf muscles have to relearn how they are used in this car, but I am getting worried that ergonomically, this may not be the right car for me.
Thanks for any help you can give me!!!

The Max is ..... a Max.... it aint NO Honda!
I have owned a prelude a civic and two accords before my Max.... and I know exactly what you are talking about. The pedals, shifter, steering... engines... ect. ... feel natural in a Honda, the FIRST time you get in them... there is no getting used to them... The Max has ways to go as far as feel in pedals, shifter, and steering feel. I do hate the clutch feel... you have don't feel the engine spinning while you feather the clutch.. I have to look at the Tach. all the time. when my max was new it took me a while to get used to the pedal positions and to the shifter..
the only thing I can say is to install the Short throw shifter from stillen and to add bulkier pedal covers to your factory ones.. that way they will stick out more

I agree with you that this is a really odd pedal arrangement. I drive a lot of different cars and this is the first import that has felt so bad. I have size 12 feet yet the pedals were too far apart!!! I added inexpensive pedal pads and spent some time adjusting the stroke and stop on the clutch pedal (I suspect this adjustment is done at the factory without the extra floor mats). It is now pretty good except for the lack of feel.
