I'm home for Thanksgiving and my dad just picked up a '90 Nissan Stanza XE a coulple weeks ago...Auto...All power. Seems to have a 2.4 litre 12-Valve engine. Peppy for a 4 cyl...but he and I know nothing about it.

It's in great shape, VERY Clean, 117K miles. he got it for $500 from a friend, so can afford to put a little into it. I know it needs a new muffler but that's about it from what I can tell. He's complaining that it only gets 15 mpg in town. And he is a very CONSERVATIVE driver. That doesn't seem right. My soon-to-be-ex has a '98 Altima...is it the same engine?? She gets 25 mpg in town.

Could the muffler be affecting it that badly? O2 sensor maybe? Would high octane gas help? All the plugs, filters (air and fuel), plug wires, tranny fluid, and oil has been replaced. I blew some air intake cleaner into the manifold while running, but it looked clean in there already, and it didn't seem to do anything for it. I can't figure out what else could be robbing him of the fuel economy.

Does anyone know anything about this car or it's specs? Someone told me he should be getting to 60 in 8 seconds...It didn't feel that fast.

The good thing is that he got rid of the
VW Fox that he had been driving around. That thing was falling apart!
Any info on the Stanza would be helpful. Thanks.

i don't know much but i know there is like one or two Stanza sites out there.

 

got to cars.com and look at the enter the year, make, and model. u should get all ur answers there. hope this helps, if not then o well at least i tried right?

I had a 91XE Stanza for 6 years. I even have the FSM for it. The running gear of the car is very similar to a 3rd Gen Max. It actually handles a bit better than a Max, because the suspension is stiffer than a GXE Max and the engine is much lighter. It's only a bit slower than an auto 3rd gen Max, but noiser and more vibration. The car is geared higher than a Max, so it's not uncommon to get wors gas milage with it than a Max. With the milage you report, the O2 sensor is probably shot. The good news is that the engine has a timing chain so that's one thing less to replace. Let me know if you have any other questions about it.

back in 1993? i think it was called the "Stanza Altima"...
i think the first altima even had a sticker on it that said "Stanza"...
ANYWAY...
i beleive it shares the same 2.4 liter engine as the Altima (150HP) but with slight differences...
i would do a COMPLETE tuneup on it if its getting only 15mpg around town...
Air/Fuel filters, PCV, wires, plugs, adj timing, etc...
all that good stuff...
should help out alot.

 

I think starting in 1990, the Stanza had the same motor as the 240SX.

 

I also think that Daniel B. Martin used to own a Stanza. Give him a holler.

 

The 93 Altima got the ka24de.

The stanza has the ka24e. 12v (3per cyl)

Its rated at like 130-135hp, 145is torque. So bascically only the high end boost came in 93 with the 4 per cly design.

ka24e - isn't that the same motor used in 86-95 Nissan trucks/240sx'x? Perhaps I'm thinking of the ka24de?

 

The first to actually get the KA24DE was the 240sx back in like 90 or 91(whenever that model had an update). The Ka24e was used in the pick-ups and they too eventually got the DE. However, the truks get that motor in "truck tune". They make less hp and torque than the altima(same motor) but it happens at a lower rpm.
