I had some work done on the trans, and now I am noticing a loud noise when driving in 1st gear and shifting to 2nd. Could it be my trans, or motor mounts?

More detail would be helpful.

What work was done on the trans?

Is the loud noise a squeal, a squeek, a shriek, a rattle, a grinding, a scraping, a humming, a droning, a moan, a buzz, a clunk, a thump? Is it one isolated sound, or a series of similar sounds? If a series, are they rythmic or random? Is there anything that you can do with the clutch or shifter which makes the sound come or go, or get louder or softer?

Try this experiment: drive slowly in first gear. Rest your hand lightly on the shifter. Alternately speed up and slow down. Does the shifter move each time you change pressure on the gas pedal? If it does, that points to engine mounts.

They changed the clutch a few times and replaced some little components. The noise is appearing when I drive slow in first gear and accelerate gradually, it's like a tick, something cracking.

The next step is to determine whether the sound is related to the driver side wheel, or the passenger side. Since this sound occurs when the vehicle is traveling slowly, you can use an assistant. Take a helper to a quiet parking lot. Have him stand and listen as you drive by, first one way and then the other. Then repeat this exercise, driving in reverse. Your assistant can tell you which side exhibits the sound loudest.

I'm asking a lot of questions hoping to elicit a specific list of symptoms. I'm not sure I can diagnose the sound, but maybe another forum reader will recognize them.
