prep for turbo

Ok, I have decided that i will be getting a turbo!!!! But as an automagic I want to protect my investment as much as possible.I will be "bulletproofing" my tranny by a shop in md For about 1900. This place will warranty my tranny for 3 years ewven after boost is put on. Is there any other precautions that i should take before putting the boost on this car?? any parts known to break or anything?

How many miles do you have on your car? For auto's you can't really run that much boost. Maybe no more then 8psi. Anymore then that and you can blow your tranny even with bulletproof tranny. I've seen a guy have to redo his bulletproof tranny twice when he had turbo on an auto. You're motor probably couldn't handle it either.

Motor can handle it fine.

Auto tranny can handle more than 8 lbs... and you don't have THAT many miles on her.... Especially if you get a bulletproof tranny that's warrenteed like that... Go for it!!

PCGuru2k, believe me, the place he is getting it done is 10x better than Level10. You know Max N' Out right? He got his done there. Posi traction, strengthened case, gear ratios changed. The works.

Corey, I guess you finally boosting. Who gonna do it?

If you have it done properly, and is warrantied, I don't see why you can't run 10-12psi, which is probably about as high as you want to go on stock internals... the motor can handle more than 8psi, but be very careful going above 10!

May I ask who is doing your tranny work, and what exactly they are doing for 1900? Thanks - good luck, let me know if i can help with anything.

NRH Transmissions out in Jessup MD will be doing the work. As far as exacts on what he is doing, going to have to ask Corey.

Last time I asked about a bulletproof tranny, they quoted me around $3000. That's with everything that Jayson got.

And thats correct. Jayson has Posi traction done. If you dont want that, he knocks off about 1000.

What is Jayson running with the tranny (boost or N2O)? Has he had any problems?

Re: prep for turbo

You must really like automatics cos you can do a 5 speed swap and a Quaife diff for about that much money ... maybe a little more... or just the LSD tranny for much less.

Hal the guy who is doing the tranny work says there is too much to list, he changes the gears belts everything in the tranny. Right now i cn't afford the 1900 so i'm getting my vb done by him tomorrow. He doesnt just redrill your current vb and chage the springs. He actually rebuilds the whole valve body himself in his shop.

Remember the movie "My Cousin Vinny"?
She explains Posi-traction, which is how I knew it was the same as LSD. See, we can learn something useful from a movie
